Penguins have been reeling a bit lately. Have some guys hurt. Dubas is familiar with Jarnkrok.
Pens
Jarnkrok $2.1M
Toronto
Poulin $.775M
2027 4th
Pens get a familiar player to Dubas who can fill a lot of different roles and gives Jarnkrok a fresh start where he is likely to play more regularly.
Leafs pick up a good sized C/W that needs a new opportunity. Mostly stuck in the minors in Pitt, he will be a group 6 UFA end of season. Leafs get a 4th in 2027 to make up some value and clear some cap space.
Both Jarnkrok and Poulin are pending free agents. Poulin is quite a bit younger at only 24.

The way the Leafs are playing right now, this is the only kind of move I would make right now. Pick up a draft pick for a player that needs a change of scenery.

I would think that it would be the Penguins receiving the 4th round pick for taking on Jarnkrok’s $2.1 million dollar contract.
I would prefer Tomasino for Jarnkrok as Tomasino is a young, former 1st round pick, a right wing, still trying to find his way.
Excellent skater, good hands, but like most young offensive players needs to refine his two way game,
Right wing is a position of weakness, with the Leafs only having Nylander (besides Jarnkrok whom we are sending out) to fill the need.

WB. Penguins shouldn't be worried about taking on Jarnkrok's cap hit or money since his bonus would have been paid and he only makes $.775M as a salary. Pens have lots of cap room. Jarnkrok is a useful player.
Poulin is also a former 1st round pick, actually chosen a couple spots ahead of Tomasino in the same draft. Like Tomasino, he has done very well in the A. He is bigger and also a centre. Although a left shot, he often plays the right side when playing on the wing. Take into account Tomasino carries a $1.75M cap hit compared to Poulin's $.775M as well. If the Leafs want cap space, Tomasino doesn't give them that, but Poulin does. Poulin has always been in the Pens organization and Tomasino is on his second team and can't claim a regular NHL spot.

Moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's not moving deck chairs. It is creating cap space and getting back a 24 year old that may still have upside for a 34 year old who is in the press box anyway.
