I don’t understand the logic behind trading a right hand defenseman (Carlo) for a roughly equal left hand defenseman (Ferraro) when there is the possibility that Tanev could undergo surgery leaving Leafs with Stecher and Myers (OMG! ) as their only RHD?
Leafs already have McCabe, OEL, Reilly and Benoit on the left side.
Why add Ferraro?

It was Carlo that may have surgery not Tanev to my knowledge. I could be wrong though.

As for the trade, Leafs may get better for the short term, but worse for the long term.

@RLF i saw the reports that it was tanev… it’s looking like we had tanev for one year that’s the problem with signing older players you just never know with how fast and physical the game has gotten.

@WB49 I 100% agree with you I’ve said this before why trade Carlo now when his value is so low the leafs wouldn’t even get a first back then to think it’s gonna cost just as much if not more to re-acquire another rhd I think he was playing through the injury I’d like to see the leafs hold onto him he doesn’t make much so if he ends up as the bottom pair guy it doesn’t sting as much but he’s still useful imo.

I guess they are both having surgery then. Didn't know that about Tanev.

@RLF apparently it’s very similar to what muezzin had that ended his career it’s something to do with the spine and has more to do with quality of life post career but I also read that if tanev had the surgery he’d likely miss the rest of the season so they had to weigh the options so basically if he doesn’t the next big hit he takes can end his career.
