If Vancouver was willing to retain 50% of Miller for this and 3 more years, Van would have traded him by now and for more than this. The Rangers for one, could easily offer more.

Many proposals I read include retaining 50%.
On an expiring contract it is usually not too big an issue.
But Miller is earning $8 million per year and has 5 more years on his contract.
What team in the right mind is going to retain $4 million per year for 5 years?
It just doesn’t happen!
Especially when the first round pick offered is two years from now (2027) and the only player of interest offered is Minten who looks like he will be a 3rd line center in the NHL.

If you want to acquire a 1st/ 2nd line LW you must offer something of value in return.
Kampf is an overpaid, 4th line center.
Robertson is a sometimes 3rd line LW and sometimes healthy scratch.
Steeves is a career AHL player.
