Hartnell has scored more pts than any other Leaf including Phatdog in the last two years combined.
A 34 yr old fart outscored every leaf on a similarly bad team. He hits, he fights, he forechecks. Seems to me, he could come here and teach a few things.
What you should be whining about is the complete lack of production by Laich, Michalek, Lupul, Bozak, Holland, Greening etc. Thankfully, they will all be gone soon enough.
None of these players produced much on offense; as a matter of fact they should be returning their contract money. They certainly didn't do much forechecking, hitting, and practically no fighting if any at all.
Hartnell at 34 for 3 years @4.75/yr cap hit is a blessing compared to almost every other crap pussy Leaf on the team who barely produced anything at all. At 37, he will probably still out produce most of them.
Boone Jenner 23 yr. got 49 pts last - Wow better than any other Leaf.
David Savard 25 yr. is a good 3/4 RH Dman - something we need. 6'2 227 lbs 20-30 pts/yr.
You rip the deal because of Hartnell? The deal only gives up Bozak and a 2nd. That's chump change. The Jackets will probably want more.

not taking anything away from Jenner or Savard, and the Leafs you mentioned could all leave tomorrow without a tear shed. My point is tying up over $13 million on an average 34 year old player for 3 years is not part of a rebuild. He's been available since not long after arriving with CBJ and yet they can't move him.there's a reason for that. no one wants him at that price. period. And thanks for telling me I don't speak for the Leafs. I've been wondering where they sent my pay cheques.you seem to know a lot, maybe ask Lou or Shanahan next time you talk to them.LOL.

3 years is a portion of the rebuild, not the future. The rebuild will take 4-5 years. The future is when the Leafs can contend in the playoffs.
The trade proposal by buddachicken is a good one. Bozak, the 2nd, and taking on Hartnell are a small price to pay for decent talents like Savard(a RH D we need), and Jenner (a very talented center). He's been available because Columbus screwed up their cap badly, and needed to make cap room for Jones & FA's.
Maybe you should go search for a stat sheet and think about it. No one will regret Hartnell or his contract. They probably already regret the Leafs mentioned above. Hartnell would be a fan favorite for the hitting, fighting and effort that he is well known for (and on record), let alone the points. Even if he drops to 30pts, he still leads by example.
Hartnell Kadri and Komarov would be a fantastic checking line. Now just what kind of player do you think Shanahan was?

I'm not sure how can say Kadri isn't proven. He's become one of Babcocks go to guys in any situation. And he's a solid two way player. Crouse is a prospect nothing else at this point

I think if St.Louis doesn't do well in the playoffs this year, then an offseason tradr of Backes + Shattenkirk will go to Pittsburgh for Malkin. There will be more to that trade but I think that would be the basis of it

They will definitely blow there roster up if it's a early exit again this year for the blues. Hitchcock will be the 1st to go. Not saying it would happen but just the thought of Malkin and Tarasenko playing together is just crazy. Throw Jaden Swartz with them and it's no doubt one of the best lines in the NHL.
