would prefer david savard but guess on friday ill get a closer look at Nutivaara

good prop.

Savard is too expensive, need another RD at less than $3 MM with term.
Barrie, Reilly, Nutivaara and Dermott with Sandin plus Liljegrin/ Marincin for
Next year for under $20 mm.

Resign Muzzin and protect Dermott, Reilly, Muzzin. Anyone aquired with term means you cannot resign Muzzin or Barrie.

03 Oct 2019 22:47:51
So cone the expansion draft, Sandin will have played two NHL seasons. The rule says (according to nfl. com) "first and second year professionals are exempt. " Any idea if the AHL counts as "professional"? If so, Sandin and Liljegren will both potentially be exposed. Frightening prospect.

03 Oct 2019 22:51:59
Second thought, i know that answer.

Leipsic was selected by Vegas, who had yet to play in the NHL. So regardless Lily and Sandman will be eligible for the draft.

Frightening.

Oh good a Kapanen trade🤡👏.

At the moment only reilly, sandin and liljegren is who you protect

If leafs sign one of muzzin or barrie then they trade liljegren before draft

If leafs get pesce or any good young dman whom has term beyond 2021 then hopefully muzzin or barrie sign 1 year deals or make sure you don't give them a no movement clause.

Basically
Reilly and sandin you protect then everything else will be very crafty calculated by the leafs sports management team.

@ Marsbars they have to be off their ELC.

04 Oct 2019 05:30:43
@Marsbar I actually didn't even take that one into account. If that is actually the case (I had assumed both were exempt) protecting Sandin, Reilly and Dermott becomes your only option. Can't really lose any of the 3 or your in trouble. Even if one has to go they are worth to much to let them be chosen.

Assuming that is correct, that also exposes Bracco. I really hate how these drafts are handled but it is what it is. Can't trade Lily, Bracco, Hyman and anyone else who has some value just so they can pick from garbage.

As you say frightening. I'm sure a few teams are worried about this.

Only safe team is St. Louis. nothing good to pick anyway. They probably expose Parayko just to be done with him.

04 Oct 2019 10:18:31
Im pretty sure you only lose 1 guy also. Not 100% sure when liljegren and braccos elc ends. Seems if you don't make nhl team your elc just slides another year

Im sure dubas and leafs sports management team knows the rules well and will be prepared.

The Leafs were really lucky that they had such a young team during the Vegas expsnsion. Anyone remember all those "future consideration" trades during the Vegas expansion that let teams keep their best players at the cost of prospects and picks?

I'm guessing the Leafs trade their 2022 first round pick, along with a couple mid tier picks/ prospects for "future considerations" i. e bribes Seattle into taling soneone the Leafs can afford to lose. Dubas has already shown that he's open to trading assets just to protect the roster (Marleau + a 1st for a 6th, was it? ) so I think that's the sort of thing to expect come expansion draft.

04 Oct 2019 15:09:57
@LeasLife yeah Parayko's trash, Seattle would probably pass on him anyways heh heh.

04 Oct 2019 15:21:57
That was my thought as well Marsbar. If he is willing to lose someone like Bracco or Lili he may even just give up a 2nd or so to insure they take who he wants. I can definitely see losing a first and maybe a second for future considerations though.

I think Randy is correct, they have to be off their ELC in order to be eligible. Also, there is a minimum requirement for player exposure that I forget off the top of my head. Something about minimum games played and so forth. Harpur meets those requirements. So I expect him to be exposed.

The slide rule counts for players that were drafted under age 19 (again, just off top of my head) . Since Liljegren didn’t play nhl at all yet, he was able to slide two years. Sandin I’m not 100% sure about. I think it’s anything more than ten games at NHL level and the slide rule cannot be used for that player.

Right now, as far as I know, both Sandin and Liljegren are protected. And this is probably easily confirmed just by the fact that I haven’t read a single article or heard a single person on tv say Leafs are in for trouble there. If they weren’t protected, we would all have read or heard something by now I’m sure.
