I like the idea here but does winnipeg really need another skilled forward. I mean on paper it looks great for the jets but between laine, nylander and ehlers which one gets dropped to 3rd line? Pionk is more valuable to the jets than nylander would be.

Hate when i agree with any jets fan but its the truth. It has nothing to do with value of the deal as the value is dead on. It has to do with the needs of the jets and another skilled winger just isn't what they need. 25 other teams and this is a done deal on both sides

Say the deal did somehow happen and that ottawa deal was purposed. I don't think ottawa would need a cap dump as they could just resign dermott for perrault money.
Then ottawa just needs to pony up a 2nd maybe even a low 1st round pick in this deal

The aniheim deal i think is pretty close in value. No harm asking for a 2nd instead of a 3rd as johnssons value is a third on his own

Thats my opinion on these deals .

I was just thinking because Nylander was brought up as a Centre, he could play Centre for the Jets.

25 Jul 2020 20:31:45
Also the Perrault cap dump isn’t for the purpose of the Sens reaching the cap floor, it’s more so the leafs don’t go over the cap, and yes we may be able to get more in both LTIR trades I guess, I was just thinking like this would be the absolute minimum we would probably want to recieve.

25 Jul 2020 20:31:56
It's a good target for Nylander but the Jets need defence. They can't really give up pionk right now.

25 Jul 2020 21:20:13
Ya, my thought process behind this was that the Jets could then trade Little and let’s say Roslovic for cap space and then sign a couple of top 4D in free agency like Pietrangelo or Krug and Brodie or Vatanen.

25 Jul 2020 22:35:19
Very good responses themostleaf and i totally agree.

Afterall, jets management has very little confidence in Little as their 2C. In fact doesn't the jets at every deadline keep dealing picks and prospects for upcoming ufas to play 2C. I mean stasney and hayes comes to mind. They hated winnipeg so much they left for less money. lol.

So everyone agrees the jets need a 2C. why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone then

Try a 3 way deal
Nylander and M. Reilly to jets
Little and dermott to sens
White, pionk. And gaborik to leafs

its cap in for cap out kinda deal.

Winnipeg gets their 2C and he can't leave. reilly isn't much but as jets fans write
Niku, dahlstrom, heinola, stanley, samberg, green and further down road chisholm. Those guys to go with next years Norris winner in morrisey and that's a pretty damn good d corp. well according to jets fans every dman mentioned is a top 4 guy. So pionk is replaceable and nylander is a maddive upgrade over little. Heck, the team gets out of littles contract also. man what a deal for them

Ottawa gets out of whites contract. Huge disappointment since signing the big deal. Getting out of giving gaborik unused contract is a huge win for a cap strapped franchise. Dermott is an upgrade over reilly but jets fans hate dermott so ottawa can have him. Little becomes ottawas most offensive option at center now. I mean put him with duclair and brown and this line could be solid for a long time. Ottawa would rather pay for littles overpriced contract than pay for a guy not able to play. big win for ottawa

Toronto loses nylanders offence but gain a rhd who could be great with rielly. If he's a 1 year wonder that would suck but hey its torontos risk to take right. White is a pretty steep cap hit for a 3rd line C but he just may be what toronto needs for that spot. They have no right handed centers so white helps that. Gaboriks contract only helps if leafs get over cap. Its a lot of money but out of these 3 teams leafs can actually afford it.

No picks. just risks for all teams. that's my thinking. lol.

25 Jul 2020 23:40:24
Craigger do you mean mike Reilly? because if it’s Morgan Reilly the leafs are getting screwed in tv at trade lol. Pionk is good, but he isn’t better then Reilly.

I think Kesler wants to come back and play still. This could be Anaheim hoodwinking us into taking on Lupul 2.0. He just refuses to accept that he is broken and crippled and can't even skate anymore.

I was thinking Leafs should try Nylander at 3C again. They could more evenly split the ice team between the top three lines. Nylander can still play the 1PP.

Mikheyev/ Matthews/ Marner
Kerfoot/ Tavares/ Hyman
Robertson/ Nylander/ Kapanen
Johnsson/ Spezza/ Barabanov

Now that would be one of the most potent offense in the league for sure.

26 Jul 2020 00:57:03
Didn't think of it that way Mostleaf. Well played. They could have an upgrade at 2C in Nylander and pick up someone else.

I like that idea a lot craiggers. Well done.

The more I look at it, the more I think I'd rather keep Nylander than trade him for Pionk. Nothing against Pionk. I just keep looking at Mikheyev where Nylander would be slotted and can't help but think how much better that second line be with him still there. That offense really could carry us through even with a shoddy defense. Pionk doesn't strike me as such a significant upgrade over Dermott that Leafs need to trade Nylander for him. Especially since we don't know how Lafrenniere will do in the NHL. If the top players from this draft turn out the like the top players from last year's draft, we would be disappointed for sure. Everything said about Lafrenniere and Byfield this year was said about Hughes and Kakko last year.

26 Jul 2020 02:35:04
I'm not sure if the offense can carry through. I remember some 2-1 games against Boston in the last few years. Can't blame those on Freddy. That's lack of scoring. Have to be able to win those sometimes.

The defense wasn't the best this year, true. And looking at the probable roster for next year doesn't exactly make me feel secure they will be a contending team next year either. Sandin (28), Liljegren (11), Lehtonen (0) and Rosen (20) will all be rookies with practically zero NHL experience between the whole lot of them. Holl only has one year and will be a 28 year old sophomore. Dermott has 157 games, or two years years worth of games played.

It doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence knowing that there is only 297 NHL games played among six of our top eight defensemen.
