mackinnon plays centre and has put up 20% more points than Marner.
Also Makar is the best at his position in the NHL. Marner is top 5 maybe top 10 at his. Marners position is the easiest to fill in the NHL, Makar's is the second hardest. Behind goalie ( talking the vasilevsky, Lundquist, Brodeur, type goalies not replacement level.

I can't believe weathermackin actually thinks this is fair lol.
Makar is a generational defenceman. He's solid at both ends, works hard, just a fantastic player on a great contract.
If you want someone like Makar, it costs Mathews. Historically 1D for 1C is the price. That's the only way Avs agree, and even then, they need Makar a lot more than Mathews.

It's not about trashing Leafs players, its about living in reality and evaluating honestly. Marner is an excellent player. Makar is possibly the best defenceman in the entire league making less than Marner.
Av's say no. And no black hole of climate related events is going to change that.
