Leafs trade Kapanen, Dermott, 1st
Florida trades Ekblad

Don't hate on this one too bad. Rumor is a deal centred around Kapanen+ for Ekblad fell through earlier this year. I choose to believe that there were at least discussions. I also choose to believe that Tallon is a terrible gm and liable to make a trade like that. I've at least pumped up the rumored offer quite a lot by giving up Dermott and 1st. In fact, I actually think we are overpaying.

Ekblad is overrated imo. He's a great player and still young, so maybe some upside. But he isn't top tier like the new kids coming into the league, like Hughes, Dahlin, Heiskenan, Makar types are.

Ekblad is the last of the big hybrid Muzzin types we'll see go tops of 1st round for a while now until defense becomes priority over scoring goals again and the cycle starts all over.

Idk I find it hard to believe that Florida would do this deal since the leafs were neck and neck with them for a playoff spot maybe if they land Krug.

Ya I think leafs pass. Ekblad is a great defenceman don’t get me wrong, but I just don’t think he is going to be traded.

If Florida does this trade the Leafs stole Ekblad as he is the missing piece, a tough top pairing player that the Leafs defense needs. The only red flag is Ekblad's history of concussions which may or may not be a problem in the future. Having said that I still think the Leafs would have to sweeten the pot a bit more and I don't mean throw in Bracco. lol.

The value is close, 2 1st (kappy and 1st) and a top 4 lhd.

For a solid top pair all situation dman.

I think it just needs 1 peice. Not a nhl ready peice but 1 that's eligible for the expansion draft exemption.

I don't understand why the leafs would pass on this themostleaf this would be a great trade and Tallon isn't the smartest man around as we once again confirmed at trade deadline lol.

I would probably add a prospect not named, Robertson, Sandin or Liljigren to get this done if needed as well.

Islandjet, if I am willing to call you out when I think the post makes no sense, I better be willing to admit when I think you are right on as well. I think the leafs would likely need to add some kind of piece to the deal. Ekblad could be a great fit for the team, the difficult part would be trying to get the salary to fit. A pairing with him and Rielly would slit everyone on the leafs d into a favourable position moving forward. Maybe the leafs try and throw in a better piece in exchange for a little bit of salary retention? You never know.

I don't think you get any retention from FLA. They have to many cap problems with Bob's deal.

I think a deal that would get this done would be just to add a 3rd and maybe a guy like Bracco or Hollowell.

Just add Johnsson + Kapanen + Dermott for Ekblad. Allows Leafs to be cap compliant.
