Leafs trade SDA, Abramov
Sharks trade Merkley

Let’s face it, this kid has very little chance of making the Sharks defense any time soon. We trade from a position of strength, as do they. We are selling high on SDA because I don’t think he will be so good without a stud like Robertson beside him. Abramov was more of a standout on his team. Sharks should be interested in both these guys.

This is a good prospect deal. Although you explain without Robertson SDA won't be as much of a standout. I agree with that statement but SDA could technically have robertson his whole dareer if he remains a leaf thus appearing to everyone as if he is a standout. Its a catch 22.

I know Merkley is good but if the leafs pick up Schneider then there is no need for this trade imo.

When Robertson was hurt and then went to Worlds, SDA didn’t do very much at all. He was way below his pace when Robertson was around. I’m not convinced that SDA can hold his own. I think he needs a teammate to make him look good, not the other way around. SDA is over 20 now. I think technically he can still play OHL as an overager. But since he is eligible for AHL, I think it is best if Leafs put him on the Marlies.

I think it depends on what the leafs decide to do with Robertson. If Robertson plays on the leafs roster then I agree I think the Marlies would be best for SDA. However if Robertson is sent back down to the minors, which I highly doubt, I honestly think building the chemistry between the two should be the leafs main goal.

What's with people and Schneider? He isn't going to be ready right away. He isn't going to help this team to a cup. He will probably be ready to go in 2-4 years. By then the team looks very different.

Your right leafslife. drafting a dman ready in 2-4 years if ever doesn't help now. best to just trade the pick to upgrade D help now

Next best solution is draft a forward who can replace an offensive player who you trade for a Dman

Jack Quinn.7 days younger than robertson and put up identic numbers. If robertson appears ready why would Quinn be.2 ELC forwards on a line with tavares. or one with tsvares mikheyev other on third libe. either way both can combined replace points lost by the fotward you deal to get big name Dman. sure having a guy like nylander get his guarenteed priduction will be missed but to get top four D we know its him to go. leafs would lose his production in duch a deal anyways so offset thst with two young scoring sensations. be a few years before they truly impact the wsy nylander does now but the defence is better now and then offence gets a huge boost once those two are nore impactful thus still having improved d.

@MostLeaf

If Leafs have Merkley on the team, they don’t need Schneider. They could use that pick to target another stud forward prospect player like Quinn. Picking Savoie first round doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch either, but maybe not that high.

Who is more nhl ready? Schneider or Merkley? I really don’t know, but given Merkley is older, I’m going to assume it’s him. So we get s top prospect player RHD, plus can draft a forward prospect player to replace one of SDA or Abramov.

I’m not sold on SDA. When he wasn’t playing with Robertson he stagnated. I think once they are separated, you will see that Robertson made SDA the better player, not the other way around. Now McTavish, he’s a different story. He dinged 30 goals his first year and looks set to jump into that 1C replacing SDA, who at 20 years old, might no even be allowed to play next year. If Robertson is his winger, those two should be able to feed of each other and be a dominant line. If there is anyone right now I’m hoping Dubas somehow manages to draft next year, it’s him.
