Leafs trade Andersen, Holl
Arizona trades Kuemper, Lyubushkin

Holl is a great player, but Lyubushkin is cheaper and more physical. Arizona still saves money on this deal and Leafs walk away saving $1.5M in cap.

Win, win.

I love this deal if kuemper is guaranteed protection.

If dubas protects Campbell over him best to just keep Andersen for the year.

Injuries are also a concern when it comes to Kuemper. Two years in a row. I don’t normally like posting props for players that have such history. But in this case, I feel it more important to move on from Andersen than anything.

Freddy has had a few injuries himself in the last couple years. Including groin. Which as anyone who has ever been around the game knows, groin injuries are the worst thing for a goalie. Some never recover.

I would take the chance on kuemper. One thing to point out, leafs have probably the best medical staff money can buy. I wouldn't mind guys like Tanev even for that reason.

I only want to see kuemper for Freddy trade if Campbell gets exposed. No point trading got only 1 year of kuemper when Freddy could just resign after expansion draft

If kuemper is going to be protected odviously kuemper is better 2 year option.

Both teams can't save money on the same deal. Arizona takes on 1.5M more, and this trade would put them 2.6M over the cap with one more roster spot to fill.

It'll be interesting to see how desperate teams with cap issues and Free Agents without contracts get as we get closer to camp. NJ is well-positioned to do some bargain shopping.

Nevermind NJ, I think Nash is just waiting in weeds to see what shakes loose. I could see them getting Kilorn from Tampa for instance and giving up very little to do it.

But you’re right that Arizona would be over cap even more than they already are. They could run a short roster like it looks like the Leafs are going to be doing. Or they can find a way to dump more cap. Either way, that’s their problem, not ours.

I learn all the time here. Craig mentioned that a team can only retain salaries on 3 players. I didn't know that.

Previously someone corrected me on the compensation for offer-sheeting Sergachev. I didn't realize that the total compensation is averaged over 5-years.

Its all very good info to have. I feel like I'm cramming for an Economics exam!
