In the offseason to make a trade proposal like this work for The Leafs, Mikheyev and Lyubushkin won't be signed, Kase wouldn't be qualified so He would become a UFA, Mrazek would be brought out, and Muzzin would be put on LTIR.
Giordano and probably PKSubban could be signed for the minimumon a one year contract, and the rest to fill the roster would be younger prospects in The AHL.
Goaltending would be the other main focus on how they play this out.
But this proposal would fill in a huge need on The Wing adding TWilson.

Do you really feel that Wilson (whom I really like) is more valuable than Sandin + Mikheyev + Lyubushkin + Kase?
You are creating 4 holes in the Leaf line up (that will need to be replaced) and filling only one, with that trade.

@WB I'm not sure Mikheyev comes back regardless and Kase is really up in the air.

I know that I had said a while ago when the Leafs first traded for Gio, that if Gio would come back on a Spezza type of deal, he would be a great re-sign. But why does a lot of people seem to think it is probable that he will do this? Has he said he would?

I don't think Wilson is going anywhere. He is like having Shanahan or Clark in their prime, but in today's game. I doubt the Caps even consider moving him unless the offer is a massive overpay.

@RLF it's because Gio said he wants to play here. Everyone just ran with that statement.

@LL. Fair enough. It was one thing for Spezza who was pretty much a 4th liner when he came here, but Gio may still have another year as a 4/ 5 left in him. I could see some GM offering him $3-$4M if he keeps playing like he is. That's a big discount to take under a $1M. Let's hope he REALLY REALLY wants to play here.

I'm really on the fence as well. I can't see him taking league minimum, but I also wouldn't give him more than 1.5 and even then, no more than 1 year deal.
