So if the leafs sign Pietrangelo and Tanev for a total of 14 million dollars then that means we have to free up 11 because we got like 3 mill from the Kapanen trade. So in my eyes this just means trade Marner. And I think we can get the rangers to bite on the first overall pick so.

Yea doesn’t make much sense for either team really the rangers get a high caliber winger on an elc why would they take on marners 11mil plus marner has chemistry with Matthews and Tavares where Lafreniere may take time to get to that level with Toronto’s players.

Marner is only owed 35 over next 5 years. 7 million a year for marner is a huge discount. If rangers don't have cap issues and can fit marners 10.9 cap hit he becomes a huge discounted player.

Matthews 28 over 4= 7 per
Nylander 20.5 over 4= 5.125 per

Leafs then buy out 2.75 (5.75 cap hit) remaining meaning his cap hit is 4.2 million which is cap hit over 3 years. 1.4 cap hit won't hurt at all with marner gone and once laf is owed his money king henrys hit is gone. simpke

Trading Marner for Laf is a huge risk. Then using Mariners money to sign Pietrangelo and Tanev is an even bigger risk. You aren’t just doubling down here, you’re tripling an d quadrupling down. Laf could easily be a bust, Tanev is already busted up, and Pietrangelo is extremely expensive and at an age where his production is liable to drop off a cliff.

I doubt Rangers would do this anyway. Thank heaven. You would have a far better chance trading Marner for Kakko+. At least Kakko actually has played nhl.
