Edm has 3 RFA's to sign with about $11.2M in cap space. Plus, apparently they want to resign Smith ($2M per) and go after Hyman ($5.5? $6M? per) . Why would they give us their LTIR player so we can use it to go over the cap when they could do it themselves?
If Klefbom is done and his contract insured, they could use his $4.1M to help their own cap situation.

@Yakushev. You do realize that LTIR doesn't allow you to go over the cap during the regular season right? It just allows you to replace that player with an equal value player, but if he comes off LTIR, you still need to be cap compliant.

Don’t expect tkachuk to be on Dubas to do list. Back in 2013 Dubas pushed hard to convince tkachuk to come play for Sau. Tkachuk treated Dubas like his team was lesser class team and would only go to london if he were to play in OHL.
As much as Dubas remembers and rewards those of the past that helped him he also holds grudges for those who insult him.
So no to tkachuk.

Alot of it sounds good. Seriously doubt NJ gives us the 4OA pick and Wood for Rielly. Even with a sign and trade, I doubt we get the 4th overall. Secondly, I can't imagine this comes even close to fitting under the cap. My guess is you are at least about $2-3M over the cap and that is with only the 20 players shown, nevermind any roster extras.

So maybe the Larsson over Hamilton idea will allow the numbers to work. He’s big and strong defensively which is needed.

@RSears. Maybe Larsson makes the numbers work and I am good with a lot of it as well, but that is because each trade is heavily in the Leafs favour. Do you really think NJ gives us Wood and the 4th overall for one year of Rielly? Are we really getting Bertuzzi for Dermott and Abramov?

Pens have a very good down low game that I think would defeat the Leafs rushing game.
Washington and Boston are going to try to bully their way to the finals again. One just has to get past the other first.
Vegas has a very good team with an edge (steroids) . Expect them to go far.
Every first round has at least a couple upsets. I’m going to day Islanders lose. And, of course, Leafs lose.
I’m hoping the Leafs win, of course.

@Lwafsguy this is a different team. Mathews above all else has stepped up defensively in a way that j think he should get some Selke votes. Same for Tavares. They won't win because they don't play the PK (and probably shouldn't win) but the team overall has looked better.

Problem is with Nash on team even before he goes on LTIR the leafs are over the cap by 299 grand by years end of the roster stays as is.
Once Nash goes on LTIR it will take 1.05 million just to cover team overage due to him being on it.
So now leafs have enough LTIR to cover the worth of a 1.7 million player. Take away a minimum player and now that new player can be at best a 2.4 million (20K daily cap hit) player. So to whom could that be

With the addition of Andersen on LTIR, and the extra LTIR provided by Nash, Dubas has something like $5M-$6M in LTIR he can work with. But that’s only if Andersen has been deemed unable to play for the remainder of the regular season.
Does Dubas take the chance that Andersen gets medical clearance before then? This necessitating a trade to clear the space for Andersen? Risky bet. Dubas is a gambler. But unless there is no chance Andersen plays another game this season, I don’t see a big move happening.
The addition of Nash alone is, as Craigger says, unimpressive. It is what Dubas does next, in addition, to this move, that will make headlines and be worthy of really giving a damn about.
This was a small move that should lead to a much bigger one. Otherwise Dubas wasted a pick. Which would then make this a bad trade.

Instead of Andersen’s LTIR, Leafs could trade Kerfoot, who at $3.5M is severely overpriced.
Combined with Nash’s LTIR, that would give them around $4M they could use for a trade.
$4M doesn’t sound like a lot. But it will get you a solid middle six player. Hopefully one that can play the penalty kill.
A good 3C that can play pk would be my hope right now for the team.
