Starting to look like Vegas will not have the cap space to resign Chandler Stephenson after signing Hanifin.
He would be a great 3rd line center for the Leafs next season depending on price and term, of course.
Henrique, Monahan and Bujgstad would also be good options.
Neither Kampf nor Holmberg is suited for the 3rd line center position.

I would like to see Leafs sign Matt Roy to play RHD with Morgan Reilly next season.
I would also like to see Leafs offer Rogers plus a prospect to San Jose for Ferraro.

Reilly ($7.5) - Roy ($5.5)
Ferraro ($3.25) - McCabe ($2)
Benoit ($1.35) - Liljegren ($?)
Timmins ($1.1)

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Kampf at 3C. I don't think you can spend more than what Kampf makes unless you plan on walking away from Mitchy either.

I like those D pairings though. Roy should be high on the list for Tree. I have a sneaking suspicion Tanev and Zadorov will be Leafs on July 1 though.

13 Apr 2024 04:29:07
@LL I think you're right about Tanev, hopefully $4M tops ($3.5M would be ideal) . I hope you're not right about Zadorov, he's too expensive for what he brings.
Leafs can upgrade on 3C if they only re-sign Domi, no need to trade Marner. I do like Stephenson, but he might cost $5.5M+ IMO.

13 Apr 2024 13:30:39
I like Stephenson as a 200 ft player. But why would a guy who is used tom playing 18-19 mins a night come to the Leafs where he knows he is only going to get 15 mins a night as a 3C? Add to that, as others mentioned, he's 29 and will be looking for a good payday.

13 Apr 2024 16:21:47
I'm thinking they can use Stephenson as 2C and moving Tavares down to 3C. Lines would work well for next year, but no room to re-sign Bertuzzi in this scenario.

Knies-Matthews-Domi
McMann-Stephenson-Nylander
Cowan-Tavares-Marner
Holmberg-Dewar-Reaves
Tverberg

Something like this, even works with Lindholm.

Leafs trade Kampf, Jarnkrok & Robertson for cap purposes and hooefully pick up some picks for the draft.

I like Stephenson as a target and I agree with tags either move Tavares down or move him to a wing.

13 Apr 2024 21:08:34
@Tags I like Zadorov well enough, but I agree, he's a bottom pairing guy that gets way too much hype.

Tanev would be a great pickup, but I also don't think term is a good idea. Maybe 2-3 years at most. More than that is just way too risky.

LeafsLife.

I don’t understand the desire to make Kampf a 3rd line center when he isn’t even a great 4th line center.
He has next to zero offensive capability and has not shown well in the past when given time at 3C.
I would prefer to see Kampf traded, Dewar given the 4C position and Leafs use the money to get an impact third line center.

14 Apr 2024 13:25:37
The pervious two seasons Kampf was 8th and 9th respectively in even strength scoring amongst forwards. That is top 9 production on the Leafs even though his zone starts are massively defensive zone weighted and he typically plays with guys who don't have a lot of offence to offer. That is actually very good production under the role he plays. No different than if Nylander played 4th line with defensive players and mostly D-zone draws, I doubt he puts up 90+ points.

15 Apr 2024 16:48:59
Why would any coach put Nylander on 4th L? Such a statement offers zero value to the reader.

It’s a nonsensical statement and posted in an attempt to make support for Kampf’s production!

It might baffle some.

Kampf is a good 4C. I do like him in that role and I’m happy to have him on our team though he’s a bit overpaid.

Kampf was in those scoring positions NOT because of his scoring skill BUT because he played MANY more games than others below him!

In 22/ 23 Engvall had 6 fewer points than Kampf but played 24 fewer games.

Kampf was ahead of the likes of Simmonds, Ritchie, Clifford, Blackwell and a number of Marlie callups like Steeves, McMann, Abruzzese and Robertson.

15 Apr 2024 19:49:05
I take it this was for me Rsears. sigh.

No one said to put Nylander on the 4th line. What are you talking about now. lol
The point was that even someone as talented as Nylander would have trouble scoring or putting up points if he played the role Kampf does. Not that hard to understand really. My guess is everyone else got the analogy. Analogies are commonly used in supporting an stance.

You do realize even if you project Engvall's production over 82 games it's only 3 pts more than Kampf and that included PP points. Remove the PP production and he had less than Kampf at even stength. Kerfoot who played lots in the top 6 only had 5 more pts and 3 of those came on the PP.

I notice you left out that Kampf had better point production than ZAR and Acciari as well. How come?

Again with the insults on a post I made that was not in response to you, but I'm the one who insults and can't stand being challenged. lol

Do you feel better? Did you get out all your anger and frustration toward me?

Maybe time for a timeout and you will feel better. lol.

15 Apr 2024 22:19:54
Not yet!

It was your hypothesis that placed Nylander on L4.

No one else would put forth such a statement.

And how many games did Acciari play with the Leafs?

What position in scoring does Kampf hold this year? Tied for 12th!

It’s your distortion of facts that is outrageous.

As for Kampf, I quite like him. He and Holmberg are competing for L3 but that doesn’t make him a3C.

And yes I will take a breath as I did last time.

That will continue until you feel offended yet again.

Over to you!

16 Apr 2024 12:50:30
So this time I distort facts to the outrageous and I get offended often. Just because you make offensive remarks doesn't mean I am offended. Attacking someone personally is just a really weak debate tactic in order to try and discredit their argument. It doesn't add any value to your argument and says more about you than me.

As for the Nylander analogy. So you're saying no one talks about how many more points/ goals a 3rd liner, like say Robertson might get if he played with Matthews and Marner. It only works one way and no one uses it in the opposite? Many of us have used the same type of analogy I did with Nylander. It is no different than saying if Nylander played on a San Jose for instance he wouldn't likely put up the same points. Your fishing to try and discredit again, That's all.

Project Acciari's points for a season and it's less than Kampf's. We project for seasons all the time. It's done often, even by hockey analysts. How come when I do it and it's a distortion of facts. Which you keep saying, but have yet to show how I've distorted anything. Just because you accuse it, doesn't make it true.

I have already stated before that this season Kampf's points are down. I also never said he would produce something like a 50-60 point season if he was 3C, so if that is what you are inferring I mean, then that would be on you. It's probably like 30-40 points and being very solid defensively. I'd be good with that as a 3C for $2.4M. You don't like him as 3C, that's fine.
