I was watching Giordano closely during that game. He's a damn good player.
I was going to post a trade for him myself.
The moral of the story is; if Giordano is traded I think your sending more than this. They don't have a replacement for him and it probably takes more. Either way though it's a solid trade.

My main issues, he's a ufa and not likely staying in Toronto after this season. Also he's a left D so do we put him with Brodie and move Reilly down to the 3rd pairing or to we pair him with bagoshian? He is also quite the old man.

Gio is ufa after next season not this season and yes he is quite old.
Guess I could expose him hoping Seattle takes him but that’s then not now
Now I’d do this deal as Leafs would have one awesome playoff defence.

Why would Nylander get you more than Josh Anderson? Anderson makes 1.5M less and has given them an element they sorely lacked and has produced. Nylander for Anderson makes no sense for Montreal, imo.

LA believes they can get the 4th spot in their division and they might be right. LA dealing for Nylander basically tells the team and fans that are all in now. Getting nylander and his age and contract also helps their rebuild. Getting him helps them now for 1 last run with the old gang but also helps with the new young core making their way into the league. Right now there is no star power to bridge old with new. Without nylander or a player like him as their young players are ready to contend in 3 years their old guys will be too old to help. Nylander bridges the gap. When this young group is ready to make a run nylander will be right in his prime. So LA definitely could help LA for playoff run this year and playoff run in 3 years. Perfect target for them
I will agree with some here that Thomas and a 1st just might not cut it. Especially if LA makes playoffs that puck would be late teens. If they don’t make playoffs it will be only by a few points thus the pick at best will probably be 12-15. Nothing to remarkable for a guy like nylander even with Thomas thrown in.
Maybe ask for athanasiou. He isn’t nylander skilled but it’s plausible he might just be perfect for Tavares. Then they have 5.7 extra equivalent space now and lots in the summer for Hyman and if anthanasiou works out him as well. If he doesn’t work out oh well.
Does he move the needle in this deal at all for u?

If Leafs trade for a RH defenceman with term ,does sandin go back to the AHL?

I think Holl has solidified that 2RHD position. I have a hard time seeing him lose that spot after the solid year he’s been having, along with that nice new contract kicking in next year. Sandin/ Liljegren is widely expected to be third line, which makes Dermott 2LHD, unless Keefe feels comfortable running him 1RHD. Either way, Leafs still need a defenseman, and it’s looking like that 1RHD is the big gap in the back end, once again.

I would hate to lose Dermott. If Reilly walks at the end of his contract Dermott will help alot. I also really like the way Dermott is playing. Sandin or Dermott can try the right side. All of team Sweden D shoot left and they still run 3 guys on the right.

Yeah, but Sweden didn’t win any medals. We did though. Hard to say if not having any RHD contributes to thei poor play internationally, but I got to suspect it might have had a little something to do with it.

Lol. Got me there. My point was more that a lot of European defenders are LHD which is one reason for the surplus in the NHL.
Sweden has always run almost exclusively, LHD on the right side and have finished ahead of us. They always ice a very good team.

I think you’re probably right on that LeafsLife. I think most of these guys are talented enough to have played both sides at some point in their life. They were all probably the best players on their teams growing up. They only get forced into their roles as they start getting into the semi-pros and the increased competition makes small things like that more important. I would like to see Sandin make the switch to right side. A top four of Reilly/ Sandin, Dermott/ Liljegren looks pretty promising too.
