Big trade proposal

To Toronto
Hertl (1.625 retained)

To SJ
Kerfoot, Lily & 2022 2nd rounder

Then
To Toronto
Ryan Graves 3.167M/2 years
Jesper Bratt 2.750M/2 years, then RFA

To NJ
Rielly ... Subban will be gone next year for Rielly's contract renewal
Mikheyev

Leafs need to trade Rielly to make room for resigning Hertl next year, plus Hertl will be future 2C and Tavares moves to wing as he ages

Lines
Bratt Matthews Marner
Hertl Tavares Nylander
Ritchie Kampf Kase
Bunting Engvall Spezza
Total $55.456

Graves Brodie
Muzzin Holl
Sandin Dermott
Total $18.187

Mrazek
Campbell
Kessel
Total $6.65

Total cap $80.293M

Still have 1.2M for 13th forward or 7th depth D

Correction
Bratt 1 year RFA, not 2.

Not bad I like it but I don’t think sjs agree.

To NYI
Rielly $5M
Mikheyev $1.65M

To Toronto
Pelech RFA potential 5/5.5M contract
Wolhstrom $895K/2 years

Islanders get an offensive top pairing LD which they don't have at the moment, plus a big speeding winger that can kill penalties.

Leafs get a solid defensive top pairing LD at a more cost effective AAV, plus a potential upcoming top 6 forward.

Total AAV for this year is almost a wash depending on the arbitration signing for Pelech.

@Tagz. Yea, I had put out Rielly for Pelech and Bailey before the draft for the same reason that NYI needs a top pair guy to provide offence. NYI could use more speed period. I still think something around Rielly for Pelech could work, but I doubt we getting Wahlstrom as well for just Rielly as he is looking like he will be a top 6 player. Rielly, Kerfoot and Amirov for Pelech and Wahlstrom?
Pelech then signed 6X$5.25M. Would also solve some cap issues for a year or two.

Another left handed dman. What are they the Detroit redwings of ken Holland days.

Especially since what we have seen from the past trades for top D-Men

To LA Kings
Rielly $5M

To Toronto
Adrian Kempe $2M
Arthur Kaliyev 20 y/o 2nd round 2019 draft 33OA ... LW
Tobias Bjornfot 20 y/o 1st round 2019 draft 22OA ... LD

LA has one of the best, if not the best prospect pool in the NHL
Kaliyev 3rd top prospect
Bjornfot 4th top propect

LA looking for a top D-Man which Rielly will most certainly fill

Toronto can try Kempe LW2 and see how he works with Tavares and Nylander, plus we replenish our prospect pool
Also, we gain $3M in cap space

The problem with LA is that they already have Doughty at $11M. I could see this if they already talked to Rielly and has a feeling what he wants and would consider re-signing in LA. But does LA want an $11M Doughty and an $8M? Rielly. That is $19M on your top pair. Not sure LA is a fit fir Morgan.

2.) 26 Jul 2021 17:17:43
Agreed that next year the 2 would get around $19M, but their defence is so underwhelming.
Once they pick up another top 6, LA is all in.
The $8M? salary won't kick in till next year and LA will have about $35M cap space . I'm sure they can make it work. Plus, they can always trade Morgan in future.

3.) 26 Jul 2021 17:22:02
Keep in mind to get this package the team acquiring Rielly have to know he’s willing to resign but Dubas needs to know what Reilly is thinking now and resign now or trade him if he doesn’t want to sell high there is guys out there that would be an upgrade over Rielly defensively.

4.) 26 Jul 2021 17:49:18
@Tagz. Rielly will be looking for his big contract and he will likely be wanting NMC or at least NTC so he can determine if or when he gets traded. Whether they have 35M in cap space or not next year won't be the issue. Morgan will want 7-8 years and Doughty has 6 years left. That $19M on two d-men may be a problem in a couple of years when their now ELC players all want new contracts. (Byfield, Vilardi, Turcotte) . They are probably better off just staying the course over trading off really good prospects to be better now.

To Arizona
Kerfoot $3.5/2yrs
Lily $864
Cap hit $4.364M which helps them get to cap floor $60.24M

Kerfoot actual money owed over next 2 years is $2.4M, savings of $4.6M for budget friendly team)

To Toronto
Conor Garland

Toronto can sign Garland to 4 year deal at $4.75M

Win win for both teams

1.) 23 Jul 2021 21:23:14
Having Garland as a TML would be fantastic, especially after losing Hyman; I'm just not confident Dubus can make any significant changes happen. As many have said, too much money on four players, but it should be three; I left out Nylander cause he's signed on a good deal for the leafs. The leafs need to balance talent and grit, and passion which was noticeably missing in the playoffs.

Go Leafs!

2.) 23 Jul 2021 21:52:30
He’s on Vancouver now.

23 Jul 2021 16:41:11
To Vancouver
Rielly
Kerfoot
SDA
2nd rounder

To Toronto
Miller
Schmitt (1.5M retained)
Podkolzin

Any chance??

Tagz97

1.) 23 Jul 2021 18:09:51
Not a bad thought except take out jt miler

Schmidt and holl know each other well from university so rielly for schmidt kinda makes sense

As far as for kerfoot and closer salary matching try Tyler motte and virtanen type thing. Miller is far too good for this deal

Motte grew up taking same path as Jack Campbell just a few years behind. Both families know one another pretty good so it’s a solid trade

Virtanen has a bad rep but whatever. Money works plus leafs grab extra guy

Just a thought your deal was good as well.

2.) 23 Jul 2021 18:35:41
Feel like we are just giving away Reilly if we take miller out of the deal.

3.) 23 Jul 2021 18:42:04
No thanks, pass.

4.) 23 Jul 2021 19:41:13
I just saw Risto going for Hagg, 13thOA + a 2nd with only one year left on his deal. T-buds may be right. Maybe Rielly can get a top 10, roster player and a pick/ prospect. That is a great return on Risto under the circumstances. If he signs an extension right away, that will make a difference on why there is the return there is, but otherwise, Dubas has to start thinking of moving Rielly if this is the return.

5.) 24 Jul 2021 01:42:11
@RLF I can't believe what is being paid right now.

@Tbuds I thought you were absolutely insane but it turns out your not.

6.) 24 Jul 2021 03:13:31
Payouts are crazy.
I really hope Dubas tried to dangle Rielly. Everything is so hush hush here so I'm thinking he didn't.
What's Rielly's next contract now?
7.5/ 8M AAV / 7 years.

7.) 24 Jul 2021 05:50:13
@Tagz he's probably asking 8+ on an 8 year deal since Jones for 9.5. I'm not sure when the market changed but apparently it did.

Wtf is Hamilton getting now?

Sounds like a solid deal, though I think it's missing one more piece.
I believe NY should also get a low draft pick, maybe NY gets a 2023 5th round since the Leafs don't have anything to give in 2022.

@rlf I tried your trade scenario on a different site but the Buffalo deal was not liked at all, even if a 1st was added instead of the 2nd.
The NJ deal was good though.
