Assuming Seattle takes Kerfoot in the expansion draft:

FLA:
Dermott

TOR:
Bennett

Leafs will need a new 3C - Bennett can fill that role, and has been good in the playoffs. With the emergence of Sandin, Dermott becomes a trade chip. I'd rather play Sandin than Dermott.

Florida needs to shore up their defense. They loaded up at the deadline with Brandon Montour, but he's a UFA and will probably want get a big payday somewhere else. They don't have any NHL-ready defensemen in their prospect pipeline either, so they need to look elsewhere to fill that gap.

Both guys are RFAs and need new contracts. If Dubas can sign Bennett for less than $3.5, then he can save money versus Kerfoot's salary, and use that money elsewhere.

I can tell you with how Bennett played for Florida they will resign him unless he wants more than they can afford but I don’t think Bennett goes anywhere.

2.) 10 Jun 2021 19:37:27
In no world does dermott have that value. no world.

3.) 10 Jun 2021 19:40:23
I would love to get Bennett, but I doubt Dermott alone does it. After putting up the points he did in Florida and how well that line clicked, I doubt he signs for less than Kerfoot. Sadly, I think the chance at Bennett has passed. Big miss by Dubas.

4.) 10 Jun 2021 21:08:32
No chance Fla accepts.

5.) 10 Jun 2021 21:35:27
In what world is Dermott worth Bennett?

6.) 11 Jun 2021 01:24:22
Queue the Bennett love all off season now lol.

Dermott+ something minor may have been close at the deadline. Too late now.

7.) 11 Jun 2021 04:49:59
I suggested Dermott, a decent prospect and like a 3rd or something for Bennet at the deadline. For example could have been an add on in the Rittich deal. He apparently has that "killer instinct" the leafs could have used in the playoffs. Florida paid Calgary well for him though and they seemed to re-spark his career.

8.) 11 Jun 2021 12:08:26
@Themostleaf if I remember correctly Florida payed a 2nd and a B prospect. It wasn't as much as people think it was now.

9.) 11 Jun 2021 12:16:37
Geez, if only someone had of predicted Bennett needs a change of scenery and can play in the top 6 if given the right opportunity. lol.

10.) 11 Jun 2021 14:18:54
If I remember correctly you were totally against getting Sam Bennett right RLF? Lol.

11.) 11 Jun 2021 14:26:06
Overrated player, not even worth a 3rd round pick LL. lol.

12.) 11 Jun 2021 14:34:46
I was right there with you RLF. too bad Dubas messed that up.

13.) 11 Jun 2021 15:16:50
@Loxley. There were a few with me, not may. I took a beating for saying I would trade our 1st for Bennett. That is looking like it would have been a steal now.

Probably spent way too much time on this, but here we go.

New here, made this in my misery.

To Philadelphia:
Mitch Marner 10.8
Morgan Rielly 5.0

To Toronto:
Sean Couturier 4.3
Ivan Provorov 6.75

Rielly has 1 year left. Couturier has 1 year left. The two are of comparable value.

Philadelphia gets a winger who is good in the regular season, which they sorely need. Leafs get better on defense, and get a winger who gets it done in the playoffs.

Protect from Seattle Draft: (4F/ 4D)
Matthews
Nylander
Tavares
Couturier (or Marner, if trade happens after the draft)

Brodie
Hall
Muzzin
Provorov (or Rielly, if trade happens after the draft)

Seattle either takes Kerfoot (going to assume that they take Dermott below. Otherwise, need to trade Dermott for a 3C) .

Then, resign:
Hyman 4X$4.5
Spezza 1X$0.7
Galchenyuk 1X$0.7

Free agent signings:
Jonathan Bernier 2X$2
Jaden Schwartz 5X$7.0

Hyman/ Matthews/ Nylander - 4.5+11.6+6.9=23
Couturier/ Tavares/ Schwartz - 4.3+11.0+7 = 22.3
Mikheyev/ Kerfoot/ Robertson - 1.6+3.5+0.8 = 5.9
Spezza/ Brooks/ Galchenyuk - 0.7+0.725+0.7 = 2.125

Extra: Engvall

Provorov/ Brodie - 6.75+7=13.75
Muzzin/ Hall - 5.6+2= 7.6
Sandin/ Liljegren = 0.9+0.9=1.8

Campbell - 1.65
Bernier - 2.0

Total = 80.155.

I like everything you did there except signing jaden Schwartz I feel that 7 million could get a better player I don’t watch a lot of blues games but what looking at his stats it didn’t scream 7 million am I missing something? Welcome by the way.

2.) 04 Jun 2021 02:09:04
Brodie makes 5mill.

3.) 04 Jun 2021 12:33:58
Not sure about the Schwartz signing either.
The Philly deal is interesting, but they will want to move some older big salary if they are taking on a cap hit like Marner I would think. Provorov is signed for 4 more years and likely cheaper than Rielly's next deal and Couturier will never command even close to Marner's salary. I also can't see Philly taking on an extra $5M in contract when Hart, Sanheim and Nolan all need new deals.

4.) 04 Jun 2021 13:19:33
I feel like that’s fair - if not Schwartz, who would you recommend? If you had $7M in cap space to spend and you had to go get a top 6 winger who can score and hit, who would you want?

5.) 04 Jun 2021 15:07:11
I feel gally could have lay 2nd line and leave him there he will produce will Willy and JT.

6.) 04 Jun 2021 15:18:53
@F16 To me, it is nor whether $7M per is fair for Schwartz, I just don't think that is how I would spend $7M. When I look at that lineup, are we really any better than we were? I'm nor sure we are. Personally, I think we need a better balance of size, skill and compete over what we have now.
Recency bias for Nylander exists for all of us. But let's remember that he only really competed at this level in the playoffs and against lesser competition than Matthews and Marner had. Would he have done so well against Montreal's top checking unit? I don't know. He deserves a lot of credit, but I am not going to assume Willy is now going to play that way all of the time and can excel o n the top line, because he never has before.

7.) 04 Jun 2021 23:03:13
@RLF recency bias is a big thing for Willy right now for sure but he deserves credit. I think saying he wouldn't do as well is unfair though. When he was with Marner and Mathews that line actually looked better than with Hyman.

Marner gets paid line driving money. If he isn't driving a line then why is he on the team?

8.) 04 Jun 2021 23:27:42
Why would Philly give up a center for a winger. They are already a winger happy team

Why would you want to pay Schwartz 7 million

Why would Hyman only take 4.5 on such short deal

Why would you want bernier and why would he want Toronto

Why would spezza come back when he has better chance winning with Ottawa while making more money

Plus like a lot of people you forgot Kessel@1.2 putting leafs right up against cap

I mean your team is pretty damn good but that in itself should tell you how unrealistic making this team in fact would be.

9.) 05 Jun 2021 02:08:16
Galchenyuk will want 2 years at 1 million at least. Why add Schwartz? Because of a cup?

Hyman is not a player to keep. Plays a hard game and injuries will mount. 4.5 for a 20 goal, 40 point guy? No. Provorov and courterier change the team and make the second line a good shutdown/ scoring line.
