So since their are rumours of Timothy Liljegren being on the trade block and the Maple Leafs trying to find a landing spot for him, to me it’s really hard to figure out where he’ll land and what will be coming back the other way in a trade. Obviously I feel like it’s someone who’s going to play in the lineup right away and replace Timmins. It’s just really hard to figure out names or even other assets that could come to the Leafs. Preferably I’d like a better right handed puck moving defencemen that also had size and that is defensive as well. The two players just popped into my head out of the blue and they could be a decent replacement for Liljegren is Zach Whitecloud and Connor Murphy. Let me know what you guys think and give me players you think could replace Liljegren and then also replace Timmins in the lineup once we acquire that player.
1.) 11 Oct 2024 12:57:38
Love Whitecloud doubt Vegas would trade him for lily, I'd be happy to get a pick and cap space for him.
2.) 11 Oct 2024 14:41:54
The replacement for Timmins is already in-house. No need to trade for a D at the moment. Myers, Hakanpaa, Timmins and Niemela. That should be enough. Just move Lily for a solid pick/ prospect and use the cap space so they don't have to trade anyone else when everyone is off IR.
3.) 11 Oct 2024 15:32:40
In a perfect world, yes. I agree that a 6'4, right hand shot D-man, that moves the puck like Bobby Orr would be perfect, but I'm not convinced Lilly gets that return.
4.) 12 Oct 2024 01:03:26
I’m happy to see Timmins make the team.
If he can stay healthy I feel he will be a real asset.
As RLF points out,
Leafs also have Hakanppa, Meyers and Niemala, all RHD.
The trade does not need to be for a RHD replacement.
With the bottom six of the lineup playing well, it is difficult to find a player in a trade that can step into the lineup and be an immediate upgrade.
If Leafs combine a combination of Liljegren, Kampf and/ or Robertson in a trade, is it possible they could land something more significant like a Shane Wright?

So I’ve heard things about Murray being a potential target for the Maple Leafs. As a guy who really wants Gibson, Kuemper or Fleury, if we can’t get one of the three then I would take a look at Matt Murray. I feel like if he came here to Toronto where he’s from and somehow he finds a way to shine a play the way he did in Pittsburgh then I’d say that’s a steel. He hasn’t been great the past two-three season and that’s because of injury and teams that’s he’s one. The year before he joined the Senators, the Penguins were a decently good team with huge upside and had so much potential with two starting goalies with him and Jarry at the time. Then when he signs in Ottawa, not only did injury screw him over again but it was also the team that was in front of him as well. If he can get a fresh start with a team that’s on the verge of winning a cup I think he could be one of the pieces that this team is missing. So this is what a trade would look like in my opinion if Toronto and Ottawa were too do a trade. I’d do something like this.
Toronto acquires;
Murray
Zub
Watson
2023 3rd round pick
Ottawa acquires:
Mrazek
Holl
Anderson
2023 6th round pick.
1.) 12 Jun 2022 22:14:50
From what I read it isn’t a trade scenario dubas is interested in they want to see if Ottawa buys out Murray and then they will sign him as a ufa.
2.) 13 Jun 2022 00:01:28
Murray has a $6+ a year cap hit.
For far less we can keep Campbell.
Unless Ottawa buys him out he is not in Leafs plans.
It has been years since Murray was a NHL caliber, starting goalie.
Even in Ottawa he lost the starting job to Forsberg who Leafs could have had on waivers and the backup position to Gufstafson.
Why would he be a fit on a contender?
Unless he signs for $1 million I do not feel
Leafs should use a SPC on him!
3.) 13 Jun 2022 00:20:20
Why would you possibly want Murray? He just isn't worth that contract.
24 May 2022 14:14:40
Toronto trades: Nick Robertson, Petr Mrazek, Alex Kerfoot and a first round pick
Anaheim trades: John Gibson, Max Comtois, Kevin Shattenkirk and a second.
Now I know y’all won’t agree with this trade or question why I added some guys in this deal so let me explain. John Gibson is apparently rumoured and linked to the Leafs and could be a guy that they acquire if. Campbell doesn’t sign according to Elliotte Friedman. Gibson in my opinion is still a top goalie in the league when healthy and when he’s on a good team. Obviously Anaheim hasn’t been the greatest for over three seasons but he still has a great GAA and Save %. He’s been on the Leafs radar for years and if Campbell doesn’t come back then Toronto shouldn’t pass up on the opportunity to get a goalie in John Gibson. With Comtois this could be a guy that could possibly replace a guy like Kase or Blackwell If they don’t resign with the Leafs. Comtois is a former 16 goal scorer that could come on a team with skill and make an impact maybe on the third or fourth line and could even bounce up to the first or second line if need. He’s 6’2 210-220 and he can hit. Max hasn’t got the opportunity to show what he’s made of in the league and I feel like Toronto could give him that opportunity. Finally with Shattenkirk, he’s another guy that has probably been rumoured to the Leafs for a while. Right handed shot player that we need on this team because maybe if Lyubushkin doesn’t sign which I hope he does, Shattenkirk can replace him and make our defence hard to play against. For a player that’s in his mid 30s he’s still averaging good numbers. So these are guys that I think Toronto should get. Sound off in the comments if you like this trade or no. But in the comments definitely add different players in the deal but keep Gibson in the deal.
1.) 24 May 2022 18:26:08
At this point Robertson is a B prospect. So you're expecting, a high second, a top 10 goalie, comtois and shatty (because that's how he plays defence) and a high second for: a B prospect, a cap dump, a rental and a late first?
You don't see an issue here?
2.) 24 May 2022 20:07:24
Toronto should trade Muzzin (no trade does not kick in until July 1st 2023)
Toronto trades Muzzin and Abreeze
To
Anaheim for Maxine Comtois and Max Jones.
3.) 24 May 2022 21:07:51
Actually, Muzzin has a full no trade until July 1st 2023. Then it becomes a partial no trade (10 team list starts July 2023).
4.) 24 May 2022 21:09:16
@Adam. Sorry, can't imagine Anaheim taking this deal.
5.) 25 May 2022 03:38:19
Love to have the two Max’s from Anaheim.
They both are young and would add physicality to a somewhat soft lineup.
17 Feb 2022 12:58:22
There is another defencemen I have been watching for a while and have been a target for us for a couple of years now. His name is Dylan DeMelo of the Winnipeg Jets. He’s 6’0 191 pounds and he a very physical defencemen that could fit in our lineup. Yea he may not be good offensively and doesn’t average many points per game or even points in a season and it’s hard because before this season he had scored in over two- three season. I know this isn’t my first choice but if I did this trade I would centre this trade around a guy like Andrew Copp. I’ve always been a fan of Copp and think he can fit the second or third line with the leafs. He’s got size on him which could really help the leafs out in the playoffs. Copp always has good production every year so he could be a player that could be apart of the future. So here’s how I would look at it and how I’d make a trade.
Jets receive: Ritchie, Holl or either Dermott, a 2023 third or fourth
Leafs receive: Copp, DeMelo and a third or fourth
I think this could be a trade that could workout for both sides and it could happen.
1.) 17 Feb 2022 14:39:27
I have also been a fan of Demelo since his days in Ottawa and was upset the Leafs did not trade for him. also a fan of Copp and actually came up with these 2 players as a possible deal just last night. however i dunno that we could re-sign Copp next year and i also think Jets would never take that deal from Leafs for DeMelo alone. he is signed to decent contract and for like 3 more years. we definately have to add to this deal.
2.) 17 Feb 2022 14:53:24
DeMelo has been discussed recently. Copp is one I have mentioned myself in the past. Like the targets, but man, you and I see values very differently. Copp plays top 6 minutes in Winnipeg. DeMelo has been getting more icetime since the coaching change, but is a really good 5 if not a complimentary 4.
So for what Winnipeg is offering, Toronto is offering an overpaid forward they have in the AHL (otherwise known as a cap dump), a struggling D-man or a D-man that cannot find a regular spot in the lineup and the Leafs will also get a draft pick this year in exchange for one next year.
You said this trade could help both teams, how does it help Winnipeg?
3.) 17 Feb 2022 17:51:08
When you buy a new car do you start the offer at 7$?
No chance either team accepts this.
4.) 19 Feb 2022 02:23:07
I’ve been advocating for DeMelo for years.
Leafs could have had him for nothing when San Jose put him on waivers.
Leafs could have acquired him when Ottawa made him available and Winnipeg picked him up for a 3rd round pick.
DeMelo would be a great addition and a big improvement over Holl on the 2nd pairing and PK.
03 Feb 2022 16:15:06
Leafs acquire: Chiarot, Lehkonen, Allen
Habs acquire: Ritchie. Holl, Mrazek.
The reason I add Mrazek is because if the leafs get Jake Allen, they will have less cap to pay for a backup goaltender and I think it could fit and I believe it could workout both ways.
1.) 03 Feb 2022 17:04:19
I don't quite understand why MTL would want to do this? We're sending them a 5-6 defender on most teams, a press box forward and a backup goalie that's done nothing of note so far.
2.) 03 Feb 2022 17:59:15
It is always great when guys that call others trade ideas as brutal or the worst he has ever seen, is the same guy that comes out with these beauties one after another. lol.
3.) 03 Feb 2022 21:50:14
He's just throwing them out there to see if they make sense in his next article lol.

So I’ve really had a lot of time to think of players I would love to see the Leafs get and it’s really hard to think of great players but I got two that came to mind and these are players I’d like for Toronto to get. The first one is Rickard Rakell from the Pittsburgh Penguins. This is a players I have always been a fan of from in his days in Anaheim. 2- way forward, can use the body, gets about 100 plus hits a year. Very good offensively and can produce a good amount of points and I’ve seen that first hand with him playing in Pittsburgh as he’s played with Crosby. Just his overall game I really do like and he’s got term with this year and next at around 5 million dollars so I feel like obviously if a trade went down there would be money retained in that. So he’s the first one that I’d trade for. Honourable mention: Alex Tuch, Jared McCann.
The second name is a defencemen. Honourable mention: Justin Faulk and Rasmus Andersson. But the main defencemen that I would like the Leafs to get is bring back Luke Schenn. Now the reason I would trade for him back is because of two reasons. 1) I felt like he should stayed with Toronto after his second stint in Toronto but didn’t sign back. 2) If Chris Tanev does end up being injured that rest of the season and Schenn can be that replacement in the mean time. So I hope both trades can happen.
23 Feb 2025 21:25:29
So as the trade deadline approaches, I think the Maple Leafs will be busy. I don’t expect them to acquire any big names at all. What I’m expecting as a diehard Leafs fan is for them to get a solid defencemen and upgrade the bottom six forward depth. A couple of names that come to mind are Jake Evans, Luke Kunin, Nick Bjugstad, Connor Murphy and many more but if I had to pick two players for the Leafs to acquire I’d go with Jake Evans and Connor Murphy. All these other big names the Leafs are linked too will be too rich of a trade for the Leafs to trade as I think they want to make a trade that’s not a huge blockbuster deal. Jake Evans is a player that can add a lot of elements to the leafs lineup that the bottom 6 is missing with the scoring touch, physicality, winning picks battles and playing aggressive is all three zones. He’s still a very young player that I feel like can be the replacement for Calle Jarnkrok if he doesn’t play this year. He’s a player I’ve watched from afar and always thought he would fit the leafs system. Connor Murphy is a player that has term on his contract, and in my eyes would be a good partner for Morgan Rielly on that first line pair. What he bring is almost the same game as when Luke Schenn was back in Toronto playing with Morgan Rielly. Now would I love to see the Leafs acquire these players… absolutely but do I think they will get at least one of them, maybe. Only time will tell and we will see what happens on March 7th.
1.) 24 Feb 2025 17:22:28
Honestly with McAvoy out for a big chunk of the year, Bos may not make playoffs. Tkachuk may be out the rest of the season. This may be the year we should go for it. Maybe make that big splash to put us over the top. Just gonna be tough with not much money to work with.
2.) 24 Feb 2025 17:50:10
@Clarky with Mathews clearly injured I'm not sure.
I'm not against going for it, just depends who's available and for what price. Looks like a sellers market to me.
3.) 25 Feb 2025 01:43:20
Honestly if the leafs can improve some of the areas it might be enough some names I’ve thought of are
Fredric
Heinen
Faksa
These are bottom six adds but they are good playoff adds in my opinion.
18 May 2024 23:25:02
So with Craig Berube being named the new head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, this is what I really hope happens this offseason to improve the team heading into next season. First things first, the Maple Leafs need to resign Bertuzzi, Domi, Jones, Dewar to extensions. Domi, Bertuzzi, Dewar are the type of players that Craig Berube would love to have on his team. Physical, hard nose players to play against and all three of these players really proved why they should be on the team long term and with Jones I’d bring him back to be in the same role as this past season and have him as a third string goalie. Number two, trade Mitch Marner and see what kind of deals are available to improve our goaltending or defence. Players like Jacob Markstrom and Rasmus Andersson could be a trade Brad Treliving looks at or Juuse Saros could be an option. After that playoff performance that Mitch Marner had, I think it’s time for him to go and if you trade him you can most definitely get a star that can make and immediate impact on this team. Lastly free agency. There are lots of players that I would love for the Leafs to sign. Players like Brett Pesce should be there main target. But also players like Nikita Zadorov, Chris Tanev, Matt Roy, Dakota Joshua, Victor Arvidsson, Cam Talbot, Laurent Brossoit and some many others. With Berube hired he’s gonna want those gritty, get in the corner type of players and I feel like these should be main options for the Leafs. If we trade for guys then players like Scott Laughton, Boone Jenner, Lawson Crouse, Mario Ferraro could be options. Let’s see what happens and I’m excited for it.
1.) 19 May 2024 02:41:53
It'd a miracle. I agree with everything you said Tanner.
2.) 20 May 2024 18:50:01
Adam. We don't typically agree, but except for Talbot and Arvidsson, there is not much else I would strongly disagree with. Well said.
29 Nov 2023 19:27:44
We all know that Mark Giordano will be out of action for a significant amount of time. And although Benoit and Lagesson have been very good for the Leafs so far since being called up, I do think a trade for a defencemen needs to happen ASAP. Not saying that Benoit and Lagesson are bad defencemen. However, I feel like if they keep those guys in the lineup it’s gonna put a lot of pressure on them to try and be the same way they are now (playing wise) . That’s why I feel like Treliving needs to pull the trigger right now and make a deal with Calgary that would send both Zadorov and Tanev to Toronto. We know that Treliving loves his big physical defencemen and there are reasons why that Treliving brought them into Calgary in the first place. The style of hockey that they bring is something that the Leafs lack a lot of in the backend and that’s… physicality and bring in Zadorov who is playing well this year, is very physical, big body that’s the type of players we need. Now I know McCabe brings that level of physicality to the defence but I feel like you can never go wrong with a lot of physical defencemen on your team. Bringing in Tanev who’s great on the PK, physical, great shot blocker and good at getting the puck out would also be something good for the Leafs as well. The assets that we may have to give go to get one or both players is a lot and I’m ok with that. But if Treliving wants both guys which apparently he does then you can trade someone like an Abruzzese or Klingberg’S LTIR contract or any rookie. At this point if the Leafs want to be harder to play against then those are the two guys you get. This season we have seen the ups and downs that this defence has had. We’ve seen a lot of key pieces go this past offseason in Schenn and Gustafsson but when the Leafs signed Klingberg I thought one of two things. 1) he will be that Norris Trophy Nominee that played well in Dallas or 2) he will be the mediocre defencemen that gets hurt. The time to make a trade is now. For years Toronto has been interested in Tanev and for the past year since the trade deadline last season Toronto has been interested in Zadorov. Since Brad Treliving knows them well, the time to trade for these two is now and I hope to see these two players represent the blue and white sooner then later.
1.) 29 Nov 2023 21:25:35
What is he trading to get both? I'm thinking CGY asks for something like
Tor Zadorov Tanev
CGY Minten Lilly 1st 2nd 3rd
They can get a 1st+ for either one at the deadline should they retain.
Honestly, we're hitting a point where I might just say stand pat and pray. The office looks bad. Now Willy's heater ended he hasn't looked great, Marner seems to be a black hoke for whoever he plays with, and outside of 5 games Mathews has done nothing.
2.) 30 Nov 2023 12:04:38
Adam. Not that I disagree that the D needs work. Tree said that since the day he arrived. Can't say I ever thought Gustafsson was a key piece, but Schenn was a loss, but of course he has been hurt most of this season and since he came back, he's a 3rd pair D.
I think Lyubushkin and Peeke are both options Tree will be looking at as well.
02 Nov 2023 16:49:26
I don’t know if anyone else feels this way but I know the Leafs are 10 games in but I have a concern with the goaltending and defence. The defence hasn’t been good at all this season and I feel like a shake up in the defence definitely makes a lot of sense. For starters, the game against LA, the Leafs defence was absolutely atrocious. That fourth goal that LA scored should not have happened. The reason I say that is because if you watch the play that caused the goal then you’ll understand why not only from that play does the defence need to change but every game the Leafs play the defence needs to change. On the fourth goal that LA scored, Laggeson had the puck behind the net and chipped it over to Klingberg which it went over his stick. Klingberg then moves away from the man he should be defending but goes to the man that Matthews is covering which Matthews has to turn and take Klingberg man. Then they scored. The defence all season so far have been out of position, their decision making has been very concerning and they have a hard time in the defensive zone. From the start of the season I knew this defence lacked one thing that they need the most… physicality and if I look at the market, they’re man players I would like to see not just to add as a 7th or 8th defencemen but definitely in the top 4 and 6. One person that comes to mind is Nikita Zadorov. The others are like Andrew Peeke, Jared Tinordi for depth, Larsson who I’ve said for years the Leafs should get from Seattle, I thought they should’ve brought back Bogosian when he got put on waivers and many more physical guys. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the Maple Leafs make a trade to help their defence. Now with the goaltending. I get you need to have a good defence in front of you for the goalie to have a good game and when your defence and you forwards don’t play well, you need your goalie to steal the game for the team. Samsonov so fair through 10 games has been awful. With the new goalie coach I get he’s still learning for the style of the new coach and the new stance in the crease that he has that he’s learned from the coach, but when he’s in net I have no confidence in him to steal a game or help us win this game. He looks slow and no in position properly. But when I look at a player like Joseph Woll he’s been killing it, yea he’s had two bad games this year that he should’ve won for us. But besides that, ever since she’s been up with the Maple Leafs he’s looked like the goalie of the future that will win a Veznia Trophy in the foreseeable future. And in my opinion I definitely think Woll will be the starting goalie by Christmas and for the playoffs. I do think they go out and trade for a goalie if Samsonov continues to play the way he’s playing or they call up Jones and have him be the backup throughout the year but I do think there has to be something done in goal. I know the Leafs have no money to spend on a goalie but I’m sick of them going into free agency every year and signing a goalie that’s originally a backup and making them a starter like Andersen, Campbell, Samsonov. I want a true number one like Saros, Fleury. Any true starting goalie I feel like would help bring the Leafs to the next level and help us win the Stanley Cup. I know people on this website think with the stuff I say I don’t make sense but you guys can say what you want. This is just my opinion.
1.) 02 Nov 2023 18:07:25
Zadorov solves absolutely nothing. In a perfect world, yes, he's a Leaf. But he's just Jake McCabe. A LD who should be playing 3rd pair, but is ok in the top 4 in a pinch.
Which goalie is available in free agency or by trade? That's always the issue with goalies. It's nearly impossible to find a Saros, Vassy, Hell boy, etc. Teams don't just hand them over, nor do they hit the market often. And when they do, you're paying Bob money like FLA had to.
2.) 03 Nov 2023 12:06:31
@Adam. I don't think you will get a lot of argument on here with what you just wrote because a lot of it actually makes sense. The problem is, you can't get guys from other teams just because you want them. Does Bogo really make a big impact? He would help with some physicality, but he isn't playing big minutes. Who/ what are you willing to trade for a #1 goalie? That is the real question. And after you sent great assets or roster player (s) to get the goalie, what do you have left to get the D-men the Leafs need?

Dumbest thing I think you’ve said.
06 Feb 2022 22:28:09
I love the Montreal trade. The only thing that I would add in that deal is adding Chiarot and taking out Petry.
06 Feb 2022 22:26:06
I think this wouldn’t happen because of how much cap space is going to be taken up but those are really good options but like I said it would love to have them but it’s going to cost a lot of money coming the other way and players that Dubas won’t want to give up.
05 Feb 2022 00:37:58
Yea the respect you but not me when they fire the first shot.
04 Feb 2022 22:37:34
RLF you commented saying I fire the first shot. Your the one that fires the first shot. Every article I say you give me negative feedback everytime.
