Buf trades Hall, Ullmark 50% retained on both

Tor. trades 1st 2021, Kerfoot, B prospect

Tor trades Kerfoot and Robertson

clb. trades Jenner

clb are falling fast so will be sellers at the deadline. Foligno is a UFA but Jenner would solve the 3C checking position with an extra year to boot. Might have to throw in a 2nd to get them to retain salary

Matthews

1.) 05 Apr 2021 15:42:57
Jenner has about the same points as Kerfoot this year and for their careers, Jenner has produced less than Kerfoot on average per season. Kerfoot is signed longer than Jenner for less per year. So we are giving them Kerfoot and a top 20 NHL prospect for a guy who costs more and produces less?
Not saying whether I disagree with you or not @Matthews, but that is the same argument that you have used on other trade proposals to say we are overpaying for a player. Why so much for Jenner from your side?

2.) 05 Apr 2021 18:14:53
@RLF. Jenner is a shut down C as he matched up against Matthews during their playoff last year. He is bigger provided toughness up front. He is also a local guy.

3.) 05 Apr 2021 19:11:03
@Matthews. So the intangibles that don't show up on a scoresheet. Fair enough.
I don't think you are far off. I don't think Kerfoot carries anymore value than about a 3rd rounder right now, but Robertson is like a 8-15 overall pick. I would rather see Kerfoot and Amirov for Jenner. They apparently liked Amirov at the draft and I am not sure I would want to send Robertson as he is more NHL ready.

4.) 05 Apr 2021 20:04:27
If there was no expansion draft this year, I would like this. Won’t be able to protect one of Jenner or Holl.

5.) 05 Apr 2021 21:34:52
It was Dubois not Jenner who played against Mathews last year

Well known fact and was talked about quite a bit since Jets acquired him with people speculating another matchup this playoffs.

6.) 06 Apr 2021 02:12:35
Kerfoot and hirivanen for Jenner.

Arz. trades Keumper

Tor. trades Andersson + 1st rd pick, prospect

Arz don't have a 1st rounder this year and it gives them a good goalie to try and make the playoffs - when he returns.
The leafs can afford to wait for Keumper based on the standings so we have him ready for the playoffs + one more year.

Matthews

1.) 31 Mar 2021 15:23:48
Add our 2nd next year and make them pay the first 1st they have again. Kuemper isn't worth a first and what ever you could get for Andersen.

Tor: Andersen, 2021 1st, 2022 2nd
Ari: kuemper, 2023 1st.

2.) 31 Mar 2021 17:49:54
not a fan of this. trade on injured goalie for another who has a history of being hurt a lot.

29 Mar 2021 13:18:05
Philly will be lucky to make the playoffs this year:

Phi. trades: Couturier

Tor. trades: Kerfoot, Robertson, 1st. rd pick.

This guy would solve a lot of issues up front.

Matthews

1.) 29 Mar 2021 13:34:45
Philly has some really good prospects, but needs to get rid of some bad contracts, not their best ones. Can't see why Philly would do this.

2.) 29 Mar 2021 13:49:08
I think philly needs to retain. Maybe not 50% but some just so the cap works out. But other then that I really like this deal but not sure if philly wants to give this guy up for a late first, a third line center and an unproven prospect. But if philly does it then I think I would.

28 Mar 2021 14:40:50
Nash. trades Ekholm

Tor. trades Dermott, Kerfoot, Amarov, 1st. rd pick. Ekholm would be perfect for the leafs - 2 young swedes in the system could learn so much from this guy. He also provides us with options on D like resting Reilly when protecting a lead, penalty kill duties, insurance for injury. Go and get it done Dubas, this will make us better and it insures no one else gets him.

Matthews

1.) 28 Mar 2021 15:29:40
I like it.

2.) 28 Mar 2021 16:35:10
Way too much offered on our end
Muzzin deal is the comp which was

forward Carl Grundstrom, the rights to defenseman Sean Durzi and a first-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

The target is great but the package you are giving is a huge overpayment.

3.) 28 Mar 2021 19:58:05
Huge overpayment

Why give up Amirov and 1st?

I believe Dubas owes Andersson for his heroics in years 1 and 2 of this rebuild as he was clearly one of the main reasons they even saw the playoffs. Trading Andersson would be a mistake at this point as it would send a negative vibe through the clubhouse - several of this young core love him and look up to him.
Anderson should be on IR until the playoffs and use him as a backup to Campbell to start, this would free up cap space to get a 3rd option - say Ulmark form Buf. - along with an impact fwd. for the stretch run and playoffs.

Matthews

1.) 09 Apr 2021 00:18:49
I think Andersen would rather be traded somewhere that he can play and showcase himself for a contract year rather than get relegated to a backup. As a goalie I know that would be my preference, they want to do right by him, send him to a team on a different conference trying to squeeze in, Chicago comes to mind, see if Nashville wants to runs tandem of him and rinne, and send us Saros.

2.) 09 Apr 2021 13:47:38
Honestly Dubas doesn’t owe him anything it’s not like they had a bad team or went any farther then the first round I don’t believe he will be traded because he is a big part of this group and what has led up to where they are but I don’t see him being the starter going forward unless Campbell lays and egg which is good news for the leafs to have a strong 1-2 going into the playoffs.

3.) 09 Apr 2021 20:31:16
AF7 is Randy?

4.) 09 Apr 2021 20:33:47
No one owes anyone anything. Players get paid to play their best. If they overexceed their salary guess they didn’t believe in themselves when negotiating. If they underachieve guess team gambled crappy on player

It’s a buisness in which owing doesn’t need to happen.

05 Apr 2021 14:08:29
Leafs don't look like a big trade is coming. Goaltending is an issue but they keep winning and who is out there to grab for cheap. Might se a 7th D added and possibly a checking C.

Matthews

1.) 07 Apr 2021 00:17:16
Hard to say what's coming. I wouldn't count Dubas out of it yet.

01 Apr 2021 12:07:44
Its time to start using the Taxi Squad. I love Thornton but give him every other game off so guys like Brooks, Barabanov, or Robertson can play. Same goes for Engvall for that matter, nothing against them but if we are going to embrace the depth of the team give them a chance. Lilly has been playing well in the AHL, give Bogo a night off so he can slip right in to his natural position.

1st to 4th place means nothing in this years playoffs so we are probably a lock to make it, time to experiment. I want to see this VV in the net, let's see what he has, you never know, we might have a Binnington right under our nose.

Matthews

1.) 01 Apr 2021 15:00:50
We don't have the cap space to do it unfortunately, Thornton can't be moved to the taxi squad and we don't have the cap room to have him and another league minimum on the roster.

2.) 01 Apr 2021 23:26:10
I like some of the guys on the taxi squad as well. I would definitely send Jumbo down given a chance but it isn't that easy. It requires waivers and losing someone for nothing hurts a fair amount.

I probably wouldn't change the team at all until I see what happens at the deadline. I'm assuming Dubas does something so let's see what the team looks like.

30 Mar 2021 13:30:51
So the Leafs lose in OT. McJesus and Dry hardly had a chance to score all game, except 1 PP and OT, Smith was 1st star and our 3rd string goalie hardly had to make a spectacular save all night - Time to blow this up and fire the Gm I'd say.
Does anyone on here really believe that we would win every game every night forever. If you have ever played Hockey you understand that you win some you lose some and all you can control is your effort every game. Puck luck is real for those who disbelieve - did Turris know his leg would score a goal, did Tavares try to hit the crossbar, did Matthews miss the net on purpose - NO - so you carry on and try again, that's the Game.
Dubas has assembled a playoff team in Toronto that are poised to compete for years and if that is based on analytics, some guru, or a pyramid under the bench, I don't CARE. This team is good, so get used to it.

Matthews

1.) 30 Mar 2021 14:31:14
The question becomes, can they shut down draisatl and mcdavid in a 7 game series? I agree this team is very good, but playoff good, they're yet to show they are.

2.) 30 Mar 2021 14:40:54
They need to be better than just good to win the cup.

3.) 30 Mar 2021 16:44:56
I would hope no one expected them to win every night. Puck luck can impact a game, only the Tanner's of the world claim it is predictable. Turris could not have planned it, but if he doesn't go to the net, it never happens. The "luck" is often the result of doing what you are supposed to. Sometimes it goes against you even when you do what you should, I am sure Dave Ellet has a take on that one.

For me (and it seems others), it is about have I seen enough difference that makes me believe we can compete in the playoffs. Is the defence corps that much improved. I think it may be, although I would like to see a veteran depth d-man added to the mix.
Upfront, are we deep enough and competitive enough. I think we are better. Good enough to go all the way? I have my doubts.
Goaltending. Right now is scary. I like Campbell, but he is unproven that he can play any real length of time and is nursing an injury. Freddies's confidence looks shot and he is hurt. Hutch can have a real nice game, but can also look like he doesn't belong even close to the NHL. You never know which Hutch is showing up and his confidence is easily shattered.
The win/ loss record is great. By the time the playoffs start, it has no relevance.

4.) 30 Mar 2021 19:54:51
Is that you Tanner? You change your name?

Leafs got unlucky, cf%, war, best team ever, blah blah blah.

5.) 30 Mar 2021 22:33:05
The only thing lucky about a hockey game is the money these athletes make. Talk about doing something you love that pays big time and being born with the right skill set and upbringing to get that lucky payout

One flip of the coin and any of these spoiled athletes could of been born in poverty not able to even play to know if they have the skill

Now that’s luck.

28 Mar 2021 14:30:08
Not sure if the Leafs will make a deal on a forward anymore. Galchenyuk is looking better every game and with all the interchangeable parts the leafs are using is there anyone out there that could tip the scales a lot. Sue, a little more muscle would be nice but at what cost - Robertson, Sandin, a 1st.
If the leafs are going for it get Ekholm and trade Dermott. Dermott makes too many bad passes and pinch ins in my opinion.

Matthews

1.) 28 Mar 2021 20:34:10
I’m more concerned with Rielly.

Superficially he is having a good year. But there is a lot to be concerned about in his play.

Dermott is a good third pair defenseman capable of stepping up into a top 4 role if needed. By trading Lehtonen, it appears Dubas has set his mind on Dermott for now.

I would rather see them bring in a capable 3C that can play special teams. Even if they are only as capable as Engvall, but are are a specialist on the penalty kill, they would hold great value to our team just now.

2.) 28 Mar 2021 22:20:33
Glendening for kerfoot lol

Or better yet

Getzlaf waiving his clause and Anaheim retaining half for kerfoot and a pick or and prospect

2 faceoff playoff proven warriors when there team is good but when team is bad for half a decade they are forgotten wasted talent

Better yet just get both.

3.) 28 Mar 2021 22:59:19
Dermott is a weird one. He really has never been given the chance to learn a whole lot. He's always been a bottom pairing guy and probably always will be on this team.

Reilly looks good, not great. He's getting points and not making too many mistakes but overall he hasn't looked like a 1LHD.

Great target, I would add Dermott and remove the 2nd. Dalas would send us a 3rd then so we recoup a pick. Out bottom D would look awesome and if they both leave next year we play lilly and sandin.

@ Loxley1972, agreed. Florida need to replace Ekblad so Savard makes sense, and Nylander will not be traded.
I like this Scott Laughton, would be a nice pick up. Konecny is young and good, Philly doesn't have much of that up front.

Freddy will be back. If nobody gets hurt and soupy plays well down the stretch he gets the nod in game 1, no doubt, with freddy as the backup. I think its a great idea to challenge all the goalies and Rittich is great insurance.

Holy rubbish that's a lot to digest. I don't see how he made this team, stats are deceiving, doesn't kill penalties, trade him now before he does more damage.
