So the arbitration #'s are out. Huge difference. The difference is more than what the leafs are offering. Of course they'll meet somewhere in the middle but where ? Samsonovs camp won't budge below 4 is the thinking they come down 900K as a sign of willingness to negotiate. Leafs need to do the hard work and coming up the 1.6 to meet them. Sammy's camp know the leafs are screwed without him. I said he'd want Hill money and well it's bang on. Leafs had the chance to set the market but didn't . Now will pay the price

If it's awarded by arbitration I think it's 3m. 1 yr/ 3m seems right. If it's 2 year, I expect 3.5 or close to it.

Player always asks higher than what he wants/ expects and team always goes lower than what they will give in arbitration. Neither side expects it to be their number. I said before Samsonov will want term for some security and that is the rumour. Of course the Leafs want shorter because of his inconsistencies in the past. I still expect 2-3 years between $3.5-4M. The numbers coming out doesn't change my thinking. Find out soon enough.

Apparently the term will only be for 1 year walking Samsonov into UFA status. I think it will be $3.6M.

The Helybuck trade for this season wouldn’t be that unattainable if the leafs dig into their prospect pool seems like that’s what’s wpg wants. Sweeten the pot and get WPG to retain 1/ 2 salary on Helybuck salary
Then that’s only 3 million against the cap not 6 yes still an issue but still have Nylander to dangle for a defenceman. Add in Muzzin and Murray that’s 11 million in savings now it’s looking more promising for this season.
As for next season well that’s the gamble and how you feel about Samsonov vs Helybuck. . Is this not fun. Glad it’s not our decisions
I still wish they had signed out still trade for some meanness on the back end like a Dumba for what cost I know.

Somewhat of a head case. Not very big. Leafs have enough of these types he’d be the toughest which isn’t saying much.
