Trying a Dr. Frankenstein fix, lets call it the "DR. Chaykastein" with the intention of shoring up the D and also to rekindle a trading partner with the Flames who use to do some big trades with us.
Lets let the experiment begin...*Loud Thunder*.
To the Flames:
LD) Morgan Rielly =7.5M
RD) Chris Tanev with a $2.3m retention= $2.2M
C/LW) Easton Cowan= 900K
C) Koblar= $1.028M
2027 1st round (via AVS)
To the Leafs:
LD) Kevin Bahl =$5.4 M
LW/RW)Adam Klapka =$1.3 M
RD) Zach Whitecloud =$2.8 M
2nd Trade is with the Flyers:
To Flyers:
O.E.L. $3.5M
Ben Danford.936K
Steve Lorentz $1.350M
2027 2nd round (via Columbus)
2028 4th round pick (via Pitts)
for:
RD)- Ramus Ristolainen =$5.1 M
*New Look
Knies - Matthews - Roslovic
McKenna - Tavares - Nylander
Paul - Sissons - Klapka

⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Sorry buddy,
Don’t think the Leafs will do this.
⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
2.) 09 Jul 2026 23:12:25
KINGmatty
Haha respect for the thunder bolts.
I know a ton of orchrastion, but really two teams to deal with and I really dig the upgrade on D.
3.) 09 Jul 2026 23:27:33
^^ Orchestration is needed
Wow *face slap haha.
4.) 09 Jul 2026 23:31:59
⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ (thought U’d like that) ??
I don’t think the Leafs are interested in giving up on Danford or Cowan unless it’s a stud coming back that they can build around.
For the most part, I think the Leafs are done.
Just my thoughts, could be wrong ?♂️.
5.) 09 Jul 2026 23:34:27
Risto sucks and overpaid. Huge overpay. Rather keep OEL and Danford.
6.) 10 Jul 2026 00:05:02
Ckps1976
Imo Risto has found his groove and has actually become a pretty solid RD man.
Let's not forget that I have him placed on the 3rd pairing where he will benifit even more and yet still be able to play a grinding role who could also lig more minutes if needed.
Plus he is on his last year of his contract and I suspect he would take a less cap hit for some term after he plays a year for us.
7.) 10 Jul 2026 00:18:54
KINGmatty-
Bahl has a very low cap hit of 5.3 mil and is in his 2 of 6 years signed. 26 years old, 6'6. 229 lbs and played 1st line minutes for the Flames.
I just see him as a fit with the Rad.
Whitecloud - a true RD that shoots right and 6'2 210lbs youngish (29) but plays a smart rugged game logging an average of 22 minutes of ice time.
I feel we are gaining two and not just one (which would be good) but this way we don't lose Knies either ;)
8.) 10 Jul 2026 00:52:58
Cowan, Koblar and Danford and our only 1st round pick. But hey who needs good young prospects. Not us apparently.
9.) 10 Jul 2026 01:05:20
Sufferingsince1967 - For me this is a great D core.
I feel one of the best with youth that can be mainstays.
Yes I gave up Youth, but I traded youth for truth shoring up the D with not a core but a solid 3 pairs that can stay and maintain.
Also keep in mind Chayka signed 2 year contracts and in 2 years things can change... but with this D I don't feel like it would be any type of drastic change with the D but they will also be valuable in a trade scenario too if needed.
If the youth I traded without trading Knies makes our team better defensivly,... I'm all in.
Let opur new drafter choose more young guns while this team keeps a very competitive run.
Let's not suffer no more basically lol.
10.) 10 Jul 2026 01:27:27
Why would you retain salary on Tanev?
11.) 10 Jul 2026 01:37:12
To get a deal done. Shorter term than retaining Morgan but I felt it looked like a solid offer that Calgary might take and then we expand our D core fitfully.
12.) 10 Jul 2026 01:47:29
Thing is, if Tanev is healthy we have a true heart and soul guy that makes others around him play with more heart.
Sadly, if he is not healthy and can’t play or gets hurt again, it’s more advantageous to have him on LTIR for us than to retain that salary if he gets hurt in Calgary and goes on LTIR.
13.) 10 Jul 2026 02:13:44
How do figure it’s shorter term than Reilly’s?
14.) 10 Jul 2026 03:02:26
67 - I guess the terms of both are the same.
If Tanev becomes a better option for them on the LTIR at his cap hit, then maybe use the same retention I was giving initially for Tanev on Rielly instead.
Whatever it takes to get it done given that circumstance, I am still all for getting the deal done.
DR. Chaykastein has already toyed with the whole kubbuttle from management down to make it freshy fresh, so with this proposal (even revised) would make our Leafs stronger for this 2 year window and further.
Good eye 67.
15.) 10 Jul 2026 03:27:14
You guess they are the same! Lol They are the same. P.S. no retention in Reilly either. Even if we said we would retain $2.5. That is still 2.4% of this year's cap then 2.2, 2.0, 1.8 based on cap going up $10m a year. We saw how teams are struggling to find room to sign or trade for players by having to move bodies and contracts.
Nothing worse than having a retained salary hampering that cap space. I am pretty certain Buffalo would have loved to had had the 6% of their total salary cap not being paid to Jeff Skinner and in their pockets this year.
16.) 10 Jul 2026 04:21:23
67- Pretty much addmitted the mistake by saying I guess, but if you want to be particular, oh well.
How bout being particular then by me suggesting that you would rather keep Tanev and Rielly instead of this deal with a retainment.
You are betting the old horses in the long run will be better for the team.
Can't say I agree with your reasoning even though you feel that it weighs the team down heavy when these trades makes the team stronger, younger on the D, bigger and more mobile with grit.
And,... Buck Fuffalo! Who is talking Buffalo, even as an example of what happened to them.
They are not the Leafs but if you feel last years D-core was good, "''go buck a fuffalo in your own jack yard" ( pssst sorry, couldn't resist the saying, lol)
Plus a 6'8 Klapka 236 lbs as a mobile skater on a right wing who shoots right and has a scoring touch and a huge physical presence seems to be avoided in the deal.
Yes we give up some youth, pretty good youth and picks, but gain Men who are really starting to be in their prime and play positional well and dependable right now.
17.) 10 Jul 2026 11:41:46
I did not say to keep them, I said to not retain any portion of a salary for 4 years. It has nothing to do with Buffalo specifically. Any team that retains anything these days is shooting them selves in the foot. As far as giving up some youth, 3 good prospects and 1st round pick is not just some that us a lot.
Say as Chayka reshapes the team as he dumps these 2 year contracts and we enter the 3rd year when the youth we give up is blossoming for other teams we will have Whitecloud turning 32 and Risto turning 34 and people wondering why did we not keep Danford and why can’t we develop our own young forwards.
Anyway we will agree to disagree on this one.
18.) 10 Jul 2026 12:41:32
So in your own words you’re getting a “pretty solid, third pairing D” and giving up OEL and Danford. Ummm, No.
19.) 10 Jul 2026 21:54:23
Ckps1976 ^^^ Show me where I said that quote.
Nice rewording attempt.
I said we are getting a great D core.
Ummm yes.
20.) 11 Jul 2026 15:38:21
King Marty or whatever your name is, you keep saying everyone’s trades are no good but look at yours buddy.?! ?
08 Jul 2026 02:48:08
Matthews
Morgan
Danford
To Utah for:
Cooley
Sergachev
Iggy Jnr
1.) 08 Jul 2026 01:51:42
Just stop.
2.) 08 Jul 2026 02:02:06
Ckps1976 - Well entertain me.
What are you adding or taking away?
And... go.
3.) 08 Jul 2026 13:31:40
Nothing cause it’s a dumb trade proposal next.
4.) 08 Jul 2026 14:04:38
@ Thatguy.... If you look at who is being exchanged for who in the trade and break it down I think you will see the flaws in it. Maybe write it down in that manner then look hard at it for a while and you will see.
5.) 08 Jul 2026 15:16:57
This might actually be the worst proposal I’ve ever seen. My good God... dude. lol I don’t even know where to start. This is awful.
6.) 08 Jul 2026 21:47:19
I see we get a younger cheaper center locked in for 8 more years. (Let's not forget Matthews may not resign and just walk).
I also see us dumping Morgan's contract and getting a #1 LD that is only 28.
I also see us getting Iginlia who is young and promising.
I also see that nobody gave a counter offer of what to add or take away.
These must be the same people who told me years ago when I mentioned a trade for Matthews to land MacKinnon straight up and they said I was nuts back then only because they wanted to keep Matthews lol.
I felt pretty good with that offer as I still do with this one.
7.) 09 Jul 2026 00:59:23
I actually don't hate this trade. Cooley is going to be a point a game player, Sergachev is a beast and both those guys are locked up for years to come. Also makes us younger with cost certainty. And then Tig Iginla is going to be a solid winger for a long time.
Outside of Matthews going the other way (who, like you said, might not re-sign in 2 years or want 20M per season) this trade is decent enough.
I would just try it without adding Danford in it.
02 Jul 2026 01:37:56
I still want to add a beast.
Target = Matt Rempe
Trade Morgan @ 1.5 retained, Pezzetta, 2027 5th to the NYR for:
Matt Rempe
U. Vaakanainen
1.) 02 Jul 2026 00:43:50
You got McEwen don’t need that Rempe.
2.) 02 Jul 2026 00:48:41
He is not a beast.
3.) 02 Jul 2026 00:48:52
McEwen is the worst heavy weight fighter in the league. Gets beat every time. He is a terrible skater too. Why can’t they get a tough guy that can play in the lineup? Pezzetta and so on, at least the aMarlies will be tough.
4.) 02 Jul 2026 00:50:48
I can’t believe we wouldn’t go after Anders Lee for 5.85M. The exact type we need. I feel like we have all said that about a number of players that got signed today.
5.) 02 Jul 2026 00:51:32
Rempe that is.
6.) 02 Jul 2026 01:23:45
Rempe is a sideshow. No thanks. And
Reilly won’t go to NY
7.) 02 Jul 2026 02:08:58
I don't mind a "side show" when needed... And we need it, not just past tense but for the short future at least... think protection of McKenna, Matthews, Bobo ect,.... Now you add the effects of what Chakacon just added to our bottom 6, and players will rise imo and stand up for each other....
... but, ... also getting rid of Morgan and capturing a Young D man back that was chose in the first round 18th overall pick (by Boston) for me is a good future ploy. *Protect and serve.
8.) 02 Jul 2026 02:15:00
Why do you want that.
9.) 02 Jul 2026 09:33:21
LeafsGM78
"Read above ^^^^,...I thought I explained,...if you can't catch the grasp then quit this game" :D
10.) 02 Jul 2026 10:23:59
Edm got a top 20 pick RS dman for nurse without any retention. You want to retain on Rielly give them Pezzetta and a 5th for 2 bums.
11.) 02 Jul 2026 11:24:10
Well Guy, I figured you’d want a guy that could at least skate. I value this team enough not to do this, and hello we have more than enough young defenders and we could get a far better return for Reilly.
12.) 02 Jul 2026 12:13:29
Clarky, why do u need a 36yr old LW who put up 42pts last season at $5.4m aav for the next 3 seasons are you ok?
25 Jun 2026 07:45:50
Whitecloud $2,750,000 × 2yr
Bahl$5,350,000 × 5yr
Klapka $1,250,000
Ryan Strome $5,000,000 × 1yr
2026 1st Round Pick
For: Knies- Morgan - Bo Girioux - Leafs (from Philly) 3rd round pick
Trade Carlo - Quillian 2026 (Flames) 1st to Nucks for:
Elias Petterson @ 9.6m per year (2 mil retained)
3rd round pick ( columbus)
Robertson - Matthews - Cowan
Marcelli - Pettersson - Nylander
Joshua - Strome- Tavares
McKenna - Lorentz- Klapka
Bahl- Raddyish
McCabe- Whitecloud
OEL- Andrae
Stolarz
Beast
1.) 25 Jun 2026 11:13:11
Wow. Where to begin? Nick Robertson is your first line left winger. Macelli is your second line left winger. And the first overall pick is on a checking line playing 6-10 minutes a night.
Absolutely ridiculous.
2.) 25 Jun 2026 13:08:40
That whole second line is worse defensively than just Rielly.
3.) 25 Jun 2026 13:29:45
You r definitely that ? guy.
4.) 25 Jun 2026 15:55:10
Oh my!!!!! That lineup is brutal, Max Domi read it and called the Leafs and requested to be put on a 5 year LTIR. lol.
08 Jun 2026 17:15:30
To San Jose:
Nylander
Tanev
for
2026 San Jose 1st
Misa
1.) 08 Jun 2026 23:28:38
I will if they will. But they won’t!
Tanev, on LTIR at the end of the season, has no value to the Sharks and the Sharks are too young to go in this direction.

13 Mar 2026 02:25:03
Last win of the season tonight.
Matthews goes on LTIR.
Nylander goes on leave to heal whatever ailments he had before the Olympics.
Knies also gets a leave to rest and prepare for next season.
Lose = Win.
Tanks for listening.
1.) 13 Mar 2026 06:06:33
Is tanking good though? I been thinking about this.
Should they get a top 5 pick, the next two years are unprotected picks. Do we really believe this is a one year retool?
2.) 13 Mar 2026 08:00:53
No, but do you believe that the next two years will yield top 10 picks?
3.) 13 Mar 2026 08:31:50
@Goat Honestly I'm not sure. If you get in the top 5 this year then you probably can't tank for two years. If this year's pick is, say, number 11, you can sell off a bunch and try to retool in the fly.
4.) 13 Mar 2026 13:21:49
No need to tank twice!
Just need this year to protect the R1 traded to Boston.
Worry about next year, next year!
Anything can happen, especially given this year’s unexpected flop.
30 Jan 2023 01:55:16
Just to be open and honest
I feel Samsonov now has played very noble for us.
Previously in the year, I was trying to trade Sam for Vegmelka in a deal here,... but now,... I feel Vegmelka from the yotes would be a great target for us.
You cats name the price/trade
1.) 30 Jan 2023 02:04:24
The issue with going after Vegmelka is that he has term and isn't going to be had cheap.
2.) 30 Jan 2023 03:27:45
As RLF said, Vejmelka is fairly young, playing on a dumpster fire team and still holding down the fort, with term. Be prepared to spend a lot.
16 Jul 2022 00:07:30
Rielly- Tanev
Sandin- Zadorov
Gio- Lili/Benn
How can we attain this line-up?
1.) 16 Jul 2022 00:43:19
By deciding we want Bedard.
2.) 16 Jul 2022 13:12:52
@LL. LOL That would get us close to him.
3.) 16 Jul 2022 20:11:04
Lol. Nice one leafslife.
06 Dec 2019 03:37:24
We need sandpaper upfront, on D and a back up.
Ducks are bottom 5 in the barrel.
A couple of players in this scenario have injuries but imo Dubas at the very least should be approaching the Ducks who we all know need some youth injected into their future for a trade that swaps our needs
Targets:
Manson -RHD physical D-man who plays more of a stay at home type.
Ritchie- RW - may not have the totals that some may value but at least he can be a role player who pushes the forte of being physical and creating a better balance our team craves to offset the skill.
Miller - a reliable backup that improves our odds of whatever back up we have in our system and is on our cap range
Offer
Johnsson
Liljegren
Timashov
Hutchinson
CeCi
2020 2nd
for the three mentioned above
1.) 06 Dec 2019 08:06:48
All 3 have been mentioned extensively in trade talks on this site. The concensus is usually none of us would be unhappy with any of them but by no means for alot. Ritchie is a penalty taking machine, Miller is old and Manson, well I like Manson. If the price is right gladly take all 3.
15 Aug 2018 04:05:47
Rick Nash signs for 4.5 mil for one year.
Better than Ennis or what?
1.) 15 Aug 2018 04:53:54
I could see him forming a real solid line with Kadri and Brown. They're all extremely solid defensively and have all shown the ability to score. If the price is right (3-5M for one year) then Nash would probably be worth bringing in.

Good angles Clarky.
What impresses me is Morgan and how these last two years has developed into somewhat of a late bloomer whereas before I may have put him on our trade block but now I feel he has earned his stay.
Yes he could still be a little tougher in the corners in our end but not every player with skill has that "no fear" attitude along the boards. Morgan has turned into the horse we need on the backend. Good on him and great for us. :)

RLF Bang on!
16 Mar 2022 02:04:38
Lets not forget that every team pllllays the maple Leafs hard because of all the huge publicity and media coverage.
Yes having small players does not help when the opponents know they can out muscle or start the hitting game to be the more dominate alpha kinda of opponent in that respect.
We've been patiently waaiting for this team to grow but Dubas seemms sto believve that those types of battles comes in time and becomes almost a learnt behaviour.
I know most fans/ hockey minds realize that our leafs need outside help (bigger, tougher, grindier.

What about Matthews, Nylander for McDavid?
