This one seems pretty fair. I'd probably do it. Especially of they re-sign Marner, Leafs will need ready to play top 9 talent on the cheaper side.

I understand the attempt to have 3 solid lines but a $10.9m 3L is NOT the answer.
Put Marner back as 1 or 2LRW and trade Domi for a cheaper center/ winger like Bjugstadt.

RSears, Why? So if you make a certain amount of money, you can’t play below the 2nd line? This is a team game and not about individuals earnings or achievements. If it makes sense for the TEAM, then do it. We all know Matthews and Marner doesn’t work out consistently, Nylander doesn’t go well with Matthews either. So why not let each run their own line and make it competitive for ice time? Leafs had 7 regular forwards out and Marner/ Nylander put together their best performances of the year in all the games without Matthews. So why are we so eager to put them all back together when Austin gets healthy? I like the lines Lumpy. I think between Nylander and Marner whoever is playing better gets that spot with JT and other one with Minten (or the new 3C we aquire) . All about internal competition to keep the fire burning here!

Fully understand it’s a team game. And when money is not a concern it’s a good idea to spread the offence.
But in the cap era it makes little sense, much like the overwhelming criticism of having Kerfoot’s $3.4M on the 3L.
Another difficulty is overplaying L1 to the disadvantage of Marner’s ice-time. Why would you take away ice-time from your best player.
Sorry but I can’t support Marner on L3; makes very little sense to me.

Ya but you shouldn’t be making lines based on salary. Should be based on chemistry and works the best, making the most sense for the Leafs. Nylander and Marner both have looked the best for the Leafs when running their own line or with JT. That or trade Matthews, which I’m fine with too.
