Treliving awful job in free agency doomed the leafs. Shanahan talked about not renewing Dubas b4 his contract expired due to performance so I'm sure this season pains him more than us . Treliving is on the clock here

The leafs will be eliminated by Florida or Boston In round one. The strategy is clear and easy stop the top line and get physical without taking penelties and you kill the Leafs.

Nylander is less that Pastrenk. Both have talent but the Boston player brings it every shift where as Nylander can do really dumb things on ice. Stickhandling when he is last player back. That plus the two man disadvantage by Boston and Marner not shooting into an empty net. Three plays made the difference but the Leafs will always find the wrong three plays against Boston and Florida.

Treliving will get another chance next off-season but it starts at free agency. Treliving doesn't pick the drafted players there is already Wes Clark a genius at finding talent.

Treliving needs to fix team by finding physical good defencemen and making this a 3 line hockey team. If he fails in summer he can't fix the mistakes during season. If he fails us next season he should be fired. He will be wasting the best 5 core players Leaf's have ever had. Klingberg Domi Bertuzzi and Reaves won't cut it anymore. Tonight we needed Reaves to grab Marchand and start a brawl after it got 4 1. It didn't happen.

2.) 08 Mar 2024 13:39:28
Can't see Arz doing it. That's for Crouse alone. Maybe.

Weathermackin. I get people are critical of some of Treliving's moves, but to say he doomed the Leafs is so over the top.
Dubas doomed the Leafs for this season if anyone did. No cap space. No picks. Few prospects. That's all on Dubas. Klingberg turned out to be a good signing because we can use his LTIR. Treliving put Dubas's mistake, Matt Murray, on LTIR so we can use that as cap space as well.

You know why he signed the guys he did last summer? Because Dubas left him no assets to make any deals to improve the team then, or at the TDL this year. Unless you wanted Tree to completely empty the cupboards. It's ironic that you of all people hate the UFA signing strategy since you are always saying we need to keep all of our young prospects because they are so good. Do you know the Leafs prospect pool is consistently ranked in the bottom 1/ 3rd of the League? Who is responsible for this? Dubas. Not Treliving.

Have you checked where Pittsburgh is in the standings compared to Toronto? Leafs are in 3rd in their division, which is where they were the past few years under Dubas as well.

To Tor: Will Borgen (50% retained)
To Sea: Nick Robertson, 5th, 5th

To Tor: Mario Ferraro, Anthony Duclair, 4th
To SJ: TJ Brodie, Topi Niemela, Nick Moldenhauer, 1st 2024

To Tor: 4th 2024
To Car: Martin Jones

Knies/ Matthews/ Marner
Bertuzzi/ Tavares/ Nylander
Duclair/ Domi/ McMann
Holmberg/ Kampf/ Reaves
Ext. Gregor

Rielly/ Borgen
Ferraro/ Liljegren
Benoit/ Mccabe
Ext. Gio/ Lagesson

Woll
Samsonov

Brodie has been playing better but he doesn't bring enough imo. Same with Rebertson he's great at shooting which is great but that's not enough for 3rd line in playoffs.

Not bad Woodsy but don’t see TJ waiving to go to SJ. Not sure why you would give up Jones. Let him test waivers. Could be a noice depth piece if he stays.

2.) 23 Feb 2024 13:32:09
I love the 2 young D targets, both with term. But as Clarky says, I don't think Brodie waives for SJ. And I honestly don't think Seattle is interested in trading Brogen.

3.) 24 Feb 2024 00:08:52
I would have just stopped after the 1st trade which seems pretty reasonable. Not a fan of the 2nd one and seems like an overpay by the Leafs. I'm not as sold on Ferraro as many are. I do like Okhotyuk still. He is nasty and just turned 23. I wanted him when he was in NJ.

4.) 24 Feb 2024 00:56:07
I also feel that Will Borgen is the player Leafs should be targeting.
Reilly has show in the past that he is at his best when paired with a strong, defensive, right hand defender.
Borgen fits the role perfectly, is only 27 and has another year under contract at a reasonable $2.7M.
Even if it took Robertson and Leafs 2024 - 3rd round pick I would like to see it happen.

I don’t see the Leafs needing Duclair but Ferraro would be a good acquisition considering both Brodie and Giordano are on expiring contracts next year.
Would Topi Niemala and Leafs 2024 - 4th round pick be sufficient.
Perhaps Leafs add a prospect like Voit, Tverberg or Lisowsky.

To Tor: Colton Parayko, Oskar Sundkvist
To Stl: Tyler Bertuzzi, Topi Niemela, Alex Steeves, 3rd 2024

The length of that contract and past back issues should make him cheaper to get as I bet STL don't want that in the later years and seem to be retooling.

To Tor: Alex Carrier (50% retained) 3rd 2024
To Nsh: Connor Timmins, Nikita Grebyonkin (rights), 5th 2024 (via Van), 5th 2024 (via Cal

To Tor: 2nd 2024
To Edm: TJ Brodie (50% retained), 5th 2024

Gregor for a late pick

When Healthy*
Knies/ Matthews/ Marner
Mcmann/ Tavares/ Nylander
Robertson/ Domi/ Jarnkrok
Holmberg/ Kampf/ Sundkvist
Ext. Reaves

Rielly/ Parayko
Mccabe/ Liljegren
Benoit/ Carrier
Ext. Gio/ Lajoie

Woll

Thoughts?

Interesting use of Brodie’s expiring contract as the Oilers are looking to upgrade their defense.
The problem becomes, that even with 50% retained Oilers do not have the cap space to absorb the $2.5M cap hit.

Despite Parayko’s age and lengthy contract I’m not too sure that offer is sufficient.
Plus would the Leafs want that contract for 6 more years.
As a Leaf fan I wouldn’t.

Grebyonkin and two 5th round picks are probably insufficient to acquire Carriere plus a 3rd even with the rarely available Timmins thrown in.

2.) 20 Feb 2024 11:33:55
Parayko hasn’t looked good the two games we faced them. Knies dangled him yesterday and he was on for a few other goals. Didn’t look great in his own end.

3.) 20 Feb 2024 15:34:52
Pass on Parayko.

10 Feb 2024 21:57:49
To Tor: Nick Bjustad, Matt Dumba
To Ari: Brandon Lisowsky, Topi Niemela, 3rd 2024, 6th 2024

To Tor: Noah Hanifin (Extended), Chris Tanev
To Cal: TJ Brodie, Nick Robertson, Timothy Liljegren, Nikita Grebyonkin, 1st 2026, 5th 2023

Flames didn't get Willander for Lindholm and got already a 1st in 2024. I think these are the ways you keep Minton, Cowan and your 1st in 2024 and still go for it this year

Knies/ AM/ Marner
Bertuzzi/ Tavares/ Nylander
Domi/ Bjustad/ Jarnkrok (when Healthy)
Mcmann/ Kampf (when healthy) / Reaves
Ext. Holmberg, Steeves

Rielly/ Tanev
Hanifin/ Dumba
Benoit/ McCabe
Ext. Giordano

Samsonov
Jones

When Woll gets back send jones through waivers

Thoughts.

You didn’t look at how this impacts the cap so little point in giving feedback.
You added over $15m and gave up $7m.

2.) 12 Feb 2024 13:32:50
Clueless and leafs not going all in this year. Go with what u got and roll the dice. Tweak at best if u can get something for expiring contracts that make u better if not keep your picks and young assets.

Leafs should NOT take Marner in the draft. It's no knock on him. But they drafted nylander last year who is similar size with a similar play. Whoever Arizona doesn't pick between strome/Hanifin should be the leafs pick. And if it's true that Arizona does want Marner to be with domi, then the leafs are in a great poisition

Why would the leafs trade phaneuf+4th overall to EDM for their 3rd overall? Leafs want strome oilers want hanifin. It would literally just be throwing away phaneuf for nothing seeing as they will draft the exact same players anyways

Robertson is amazing at shooting. for a third liner in the playoffs you have to provide more I agree. I like the thought and value, Id rather do Niemela and a 3rd/ 4th instead of Lily though. He's been much stronger defensively recently.

you need salary going back like kampf with taev at 50% retained and I think a 3rd and a 4th swap is more fair cause leafs first and flames second will only be like 10-15 picks apart. Overall framework tho I think makes good sense.

I definetly see your points, my thing is Dubas seems hellbent on getting it done now. a kind of trade that may come back to bite but he'd be out anyways if it does sorta thing.

Leafs want to improve without dealing top prospects and picks they don't have, Sanheim>Dermott, JVR>Mikheyev, I think JVR could be great back with the leafs on a playoff run, Sanheim has another year on his contract and is only 25 and is a no doubt second pair dman, let's the leafs trade muzzin in the offseason. Improvement without much subtraction. Liljegren over Lyubushkin just because Holl plays similar to Lyubushkin, I just thought depending on the series/ situation, Lillys strengths might be more advantageous to have on the ice.

I would prefer to deal Amirov than Robertson. I know his size doesn't look great on paper but believe me he plays bigger than he is.

Watched him a ton (Live in Peterborough) . Couldn’t agree more. His play reminds me a ton of a smaller Pierre Lic-Dubois but his compete and bite make up for it. He did not look out of place on that strong team at all and will get bigger minutes now with Thomas, Robertson and Gallant out of the picture.
