This is the trade that makes the most sense if marner is moved the avs have lots of cap space and I'm sure Sakic would be interested in getting a play maker for Mackinnon leafs get a solid player back as well who they can get signed long term around 9.5 I think it's a better option then signing marner short term for more than what he's worth

Not sure Rantanen is as good as he looked last year. Might turn out to be Clarkson all over again. He was boosted by playing with a stacked set of linemates and D pairings. I don't see his value at 9.5 I see Marner more as a 9.5 kind of player.

He had back to back 80+ point seasons yes he played with Mackinnon but it’s not like he wouldn’t play with good players in Toronto either Matthews or Tavares and yea he’s a 9.5 mil guy especially if marner is worth that much

Marner last two years 69-94

Rantanen last two years 84-87.

Only problem is that Rantanen isn’t going to sign until Marner signs. I would gladly accept a one for one trade like this. Rantanen is probably one of the very few players in the league I would put on a pedestal with Marner. No need for Colorado to add a pick. That would just be greedy.

Lol I constantly say Marner was boosted by Tavares and Nylander playing a full season same situation would have had 90+ points as well. Not sure what your argument is there redwing1.

I know he had 80+ points two seasons with MacKinnon which is one of the best in the world. Only reason I would make this deal is if Rantanen took 8m on a decent term. Otherwise why trade Marner (who will eventually take 10) for Rantanen at 9.5?

Isnt rantanen the playmaker for mckinnon?

I think colorado passes on this deal. Marners contract demands just justify dealing for him for a player who probably gets 2 million per season less and will produce at just as high of a clip.

I could be wrong but i just don't see colorado wanting the headache of marners agent and dad.

My point was I’d rather trade marner at this point then sign him to a 2-3 year deal in which we will have to move out a few good prices to afford his next contract.
