To nyi:
Kapanen and holl

To tor:
Mayfield and ho sang

This deal is simply for the leafs to gain 1.4 million in cap ,so now theyd have 10.4 available for marner, and add toughness in the the back end.

Lou loves speedy guys with grit upfront and kapanen is this. I personally think the islanders are getting the better deal but getting marner signed for the leafs is more important.

By the way werenski 3 yrs x 5million

Guess as always the market has set the value of top end dmen much lower than top end forwards like we've been saying all along. If werenski was worth 8-11 million he would of got 8-11 million.

Why do these forwards get so much money?
Simply because they are valued by every gm as much more than their defenceman counterpart.
I don't agree but i don't set the market

Agree0 Disagree0

The only way to win is by scoring more goals than the other team. As such, goal scorers are more valuable. They create highlight reels and sell merchandise. Simple as that. Not too many kids grow up dreaming about becoming a defenseman. I played defense, but growing up I always wanted to be a forward, specifically centre. Nothing wrong with being a defenseman, but it is the less exciting position.

HoSang is a bust. Islanders are ready to give up on him. If he can’t make the Islanders, is it worth trading Kapanen for him? This deal works out as Kapanen for Mayfield then basically. Which is a pretty big overpayment for Mayfield by himself. Maybe if the throw-in wasn’t HoSang? I don’t know. He has lots of talent and potential, but isn’t putting it to any good use.

I think you are right LeafsGM. Kapanen is worth more than the package offered. Maybe add in wahlstrom instead of ho sang. Yes, ho sang seems like a bust but you never know. getting extra money to get Marner signed at start of season was really what i was trying to attempt.

Ho Sang from my understanding has an attitude problem but that's just the rumor. who really knows what's going on.

I read something along the same lines Craigger. Incredibly talented, but doesn’t want to learn. He needs an attitude adjustment. Maybe Babs can light a fire under his ass and get him to play. I don’t know. Hi Sang should havve already been playing nhl by now. If NYI were to do Wahlstrom or Bellows, would be better options. Heck, even DalColle might be better choice. Even though he’s looking like a bust himself. Lol.

Craig the leafs currently can spend roughly 10.6 mill over the cap before day 1 or reg season, then on that day they gain the same amount from the Horton and Clarkson LTIR. The leafs do not need to free up more space for Marner, so no need to make those trades, if the wanted to go to 11 or 11.5 they can just run one less spare player on there main roster.

Tmarras you may be very well correct. just coming up with scenerials that could save the Leafs some money.

I think it's exactly as LeafsGm put it. Marner will sell for merchandise and tickets than most players. Just his flashy style. Defenceman mean a lot in the game but unless you know what your watching Muzzin may as well be a nobody to a casual fan.

11 Sep 2019 03:22:43
Perfect example of what LeafsLife just said was tonight. The girl I work with basically has to watch the games every time they are on because we play them in the gym. She has no idea who Muzzin is. I asked her if she knew who Jake Muzzin was, and she had no clue. I asked her to name any of the Leafs. She said Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and some guy on defense we just traded for (Barrie) . This is someone who must hear us talk at work constantly about hockey, and is forced to see the games and hear us celebrate the goals and stuff. But she knew three players by name. She didn’t even say Tavares or Rielly or know the goalies name.

A casual fan wouldn’t have a clue who these guys are, the positions they play, or if they are any good or not. Even the guys I work with don’t know any of the other teams players, nothing about stats other than the headline numbers (g, a, pts) . And nobody has a clue what they are earning or how long the contracts are or what. And these are guys who watch virtually every Leaf game (yes, we are at work. No, we are not working) . I talk about the game all day and none of them know what I’m talking about. I think they would like to just tell me to shut up, but I’m the boss, so they can’t. Instead they get to listen to me ramble on all day about hockey while I’m playing on my phone looking up stats, floating props, and generally being a nuisance.

@Leafsgm

That was well put. That's why Forwards and scoring Defenseman make so. much now. As leafs fans most of us just want a cup but down in Ohio or Carolina they need a guy like Marner to help fill seats and get people excited. Why I assume people would still pay for him.
