Posted this a few weeks ago and still believe that any of these deals could work for the teams listed.

(Toronto) Marner and Ceci for (Columbus) S. Jones and J. Anderson

(Toronto) Marner and Ceci for (Calgary) M. Tkachuk and R. Anderssson

(Toronto) Marner for (Jersey) T. Hall

(Toronto) Marner for (Rangers) K. Kakko and C. Kreider

Yes, some pieces may need to be added/ removed but of the core players named which is the better deal?

Agree0 Disagree2

As a leaf fan i personally like the colombus deal

I wouldn't mind having hall if the guarentee was there he would resign. Marners value of an unsigned high profile rfa is still more than hall due to 4 years of control vs 1 regardless of your value of either player is the control values marner more

Rangers are going to market kakko hard and thus won't trade him for high priced rfa .
Not saying the value is or isn't there just saying kakko at 900 gs is better than marner at over 10 million at this point in time for the rangers. i could ge wrong on the rangers thinking though.

The calgary deal makes both teams worse. Calgary loses what they need and gain what they have while toronto lose not only marners skill but taveras scoring 45+ with this deal.

No matter how you value players or their contract value and length this colombus deal is a pretty close one. A top young RHD on the verge of being in the top 10 D in the league for an even younger RW playmaking close to 100 point player on the verge of being a top 20 NHL forward. It really depends on what colombus really feels about finding an answer to replacing panarin and duchene. marner is a good start to replacing them. I can't see colombus doing this deal but if any team would it would be them.

Solid suggestions.

Cbj is a No go they are not trading their #1rhd.

Why would cgy trade mt for marner my is a bruser power forward very effective in West

Why on earth would tor trade marner for hall

Also kk from nyr is out of the question lol.

Does anyone know the colombus GM or anyone important in their organisation?
Jones is good but he isn't top tier yet and as I've seen in the past nothing is a no go and saying so is arrigant

Calgary may look at the west and realize they are like every other team there. Big slow but effective for the west. Maybe they realize the winner of the west basically just beats teams made the same way so its a crapshoot who will win. Maybe they want to change as they can't seem to get far in playoffs. maybe that change starts with a MT for MM. now i don't know what calgary is thinking but that could be a reason.

Its possible toronto has insight to what hall will sign for and for how long and if those numbers appeal to them more than marners number . well that could be a reason on earth to make this trade. Again, i don't have that kind of insight

I don't think Kakko is out of the question. I mean wasnt guys like Hall, Seguin, Jones, johnson, drouin all at some point high picks that were all out of the questions. You just never know what organisations are thinking. Could they now with trouba want to fast forward the rebuild. I don't know but using kakko to do so sure would be a start.

Noone truly knows what other teams are thinking.

If you replace Ceci with a decent prospect like Bracco, Columbus might go for it.

Same thing for the Calgary deal.

Kakko is still unproven so that trade is a bit of a risk, but I can see where your coming from. A similar proposal would be Marner for Svechnikov and Pesce from Carolina. But again we don’t know how good Svechnikov is actually going to be.

I’m not a fan of the New Jersey trade, even if Hall was going to sign an extension. Marner is younger and Hall will likely ask for around the same amount anyway. If New Jersey were to add a good young blueliner like Severson or a young forward like Bratt however, then I think Toronto would listen.

I like your points themostleaf33

I don't need to add anything.

09 Aug 2019 04:09:58
Columbus wouldn't go for it even with Bracco. Bracco and Marner MAY get Jones alone but not Anderson as well. Even then I think you would need to add a pick for Jones alone. Marner just isn't worth an amazing top pair RHD on a great contract. That's more of a Mathews trade or leafs add.

How does anyone actually know what other teams would do?

09 Aug 2019 15:40:19
I agree with Craigger. Marner absolutely IS worth Jones, and quite possibly more. I wouldn’t get choked about a 1 for 1 deal. But I truly do believe Marner is top 5 winger in the league, and quite possibly the second best next to Kucherov. I like Jones, but it seems like a lot of people in here seem to think the Hall-Larsson trade set the market, while at the same time criticizing and laughing about Chiarelli making that deal. Either he overpaid or he didn’t, it can’t be both. The top RHD’s traded this year would seem to suggest that the cost of acquiring a top line RHD isn’t actually that high.

Trade 3 and 4 are no go’s. Hall is older and UFA and just coming off injury. He had one standout season so far. Would be nice to see more consistency and see a repeat before trading Marner for him. Kakko is the opposite. Too young. Not proven at all at the nhl level. There’s no chance he brings as much to the table as Marner a right now.

The Calgary and Columbus trades are closer to what I would expect if we trade Marner. I don’t think a package deal is the way to go. A 1-for-1 is more realistic. Elite player for elite player. Being as Leafs really need a 1RHD, then Columbus deal makes most sense. If Columbus decides to go through a complete rebuild, which they just might now that they fired the GM, then this trade is a very real possibility. Marner becomes the cornerstone of the rebuild. I guarantee Columbus would love to get their hands on Marner, and if it costs themselves jones to do so, I actually think they would do it. Savard had the better season last year anyway. Columbus can promote him to Jones spot. Dubois and Marner together would be sick.

Marner is not top 5 yet.

1)Nikita Kucherov 41G 87A 128p +24 1.6 ppg%

2)Patrick Kane 44G 66A 110p +2 1.4 ppg%

3)Leon Draisaitl 50g 55a 110p +2 1.3 ppg%

4)Brad Marchand 36g 64a 100p +15 1.3 ppg%

5)Johnny Gaudreau 36g 63a 99p +18 1.2 ppg%

6)Alex Ovechkin 51G 38A 89p +7 1.1 ppg%

7) Jake Geuntzel 40G

Ect anyone who scored 40+ goals. Goals are worth more than assist and secondary assists.

09 Aug 2019 18:25:41
Ive always said marner is top 20 forwards while jones is maybe top 15D

A forward who drives the play is worth more than a D who begins the drive but the drive never goes though them

Sure goals are worth a lot but you can't score if the passer doesn't pass to you.

Some people on here need to get the (I) mentality out of their heads. I hated being a teamate of these guys. Once you stop passing to them they don't know anything else and look silly without the puck. Hockey is a team game and goals aren't the best stat to judge a players overall ability. Tell me when yzerman started winning cups. oh yeah when he played the 200 ft game. can't argue back with that fact.

09 Aug 2019 19:53:50
It’s true. As the original Alexander the Great (Mogilny) always said, hockey is a team game. All NYI took a hit in their stats last year, why? Because they bought in to Trotz’s system. And it worked. They had an incredible season last year and surpassed all expectations. When Bowman took over the Wings and introduced the Left Wing Lock style of play so prevelant today, a version of which the Leafs still continue to play today, the whole Wings team took a step back in goals and points. But they won a lot of cups. Their system beat NJ’s trap system (which is NOT used nearly as much anymore these days) . It was a system that required the forwards to dedicate themselves to a full 200 foot game, and the prime example of someone buying into it is Federov, who would actually even play defense for the Wings fairly regularly. Imagine Marner on defense. Lol. But it’s true. A 50 goal scorer 120 point player playing defense. And his stats remained somewhat depressed, if not still impressive, for the remainder of his career thereafter too. Because he knew that goals were not the most important thing in winning games. Heck, NJ dominated the league for over a decade while barely scoring a goal a game.

Hall for larsson
Henrique for vatanan
Johansson for jones

These are just few that have happened recently. Do research before calling people names. Since u brought up parayko his stats stunk last season. He is 26 and starting to regress. He is not a puck moving dman. He has a hard shot but misses net a lot but gets points off shots that miss so bad but bounce back to in front of net for others to tap in.

Yes, he had a good playoffs but so did pittsburg defence two years in a row yet none of those guys got a huge return when dealt just because they are cup winners. Jones is a great dman but even he has been dealt for a less takented player than marner before. Just because you value rhd so much doesn't mean every team values them the way you do, i'm sure edmonton values mcdavid more than anyones RHD. i'm sure kucherov won't ge dealt for a RHD any time soon.
