Mackin. I said a 2nd and a 4th for starters. Secondly, again it was an open look. A good shot for sure. How often has he simply beat a goalie with that shot? That is one of the few times and he basically needed a breakaway to do it. I have never said he sucks. He is very careless with the puck though and isn't likely in the playoff lineup. I'm glad he scored.

RLF's proposal was for a 2nd & 4th, not just a 4th. If you're going to call someone out, make sure you get your facts straight.
BTW Robertson will not be on the playoff roster and he WILL be traded in the summer.

Marner has played center before so he could potentially center a line and he's also a 100 point guy, Robertson in a top 6 role pots 30 for sure and niemala looks like he's NHL ready next year.
Add in two firsts and it doesn't look that bad considering mackinnon is 29 next season. Not saying it would happen but the avs top 6 would look pretty good.

The problem is Columbus doesn't have a top pairing guy or elite prospect they could throw into Seth Jones spot. After this trade they would also have limited cap to sign someone to replace him as well.

He’s not cheaper for much longer. His contract is up end of next year. He’s probably going to be getting $8M+. Given that Brodie for $6M and Jones is well established as the better player, I got to think Jones will common top dollar as one of the best defensemen on the market. This deal would make me feel a lot more comfortable if we could have an extension in place. But we can’t even talk extension until next off season.
It is also worth noting that bringing in Jones at the cost of Marner would put a time limit on how long Rielly would be on the team. As their contracts expire at the same time, I don’t think Leafs can afford to re-sign them both. As a Leafs fan, I’m not prepared to sacrifice both Rielly and Marner for Jones.

It still doesn't help with our LHD vs RHD situation though. Chabot is LHD. I've never known him to play RHD. It's a possibility, but probably not realistic at this point to expect him to make the switch.

Sandin is what 3 years younger than chabot and at his age has more nhl and ahl experience than chabot did at same age. They both won outstanding D at world jrs the year after their draft. So give sandin another year and as he may not be better than chabot he won't be much behind him and much cheaper. Adding that first and liljegren is a steep price as sandin in ottawa may get close to chabots points as someone needs to get the points from the backend on a bad team. chabot is leafs second maybe even third best D option and doesn't come cheap.
Their is zero chance Islandjet can even comprehend. He only sees leafs big contracts as negative values but forgets the other end of it. chabot is freakin expensive. He will be top ten per year contract for Dmen once his new contract starts. so if marner due to his contract isn't worth conner than how is chabot worth sandin a first and liljegren once you take contract into account. such nonsense from a no sense guy.

Looking past just the trade here, and what moves would be necessary after. I would suggest trading Rielly for a 1RHD straight up then. Or we have to package Muzzin (NTC) along with Dermott or a forward for a 1RHD.
As always, you can't just look at a trade in isolation as I did here earlier. You need to think about what doors it opens. And making a deal like this opens up the possibility of trading Rielly. That could solve all our problems on defense very easily.

I agree Reilly for a RHD would be better if possible but that's a hard sell to a lot of teams. Finding a trading partner for a 1RHD to 1LHD would be very difficult.
Yeah it's difficult to look at things in isolation a lot of the time but given the information on the post you are correct. If this was the sole move made then it wouldn't solve anything even if Dermott played top 4 RHD minutes.

It's possible if the team is strong RHD but not so strong LHD. There's a couple teams like that in the league. Montreal and SJ come to mind. Problem there is that all those guys are old and I wouldn't find want them. Colorado comes to mind as a team that might have an extra young quality RHD, Dallas too if they moved Heiskenan to right. It's a tough sell, but possible. It's just a matter of finding the right team.

I don't think he's eligible to play in the ahl next season and with 55 goals in 46 games I don't think he's heading back to the o, just doesn't have anything to prove there. I think he could definitely slot into the top 9 but I could see trading kapanen and slotting him into the top 6 at some point later next season, I'd definitely take a 9 game look before sending him back to the o that's for sure.

Leafs aren't moving nr, he's a capable elc that can slot into the top 9, possibly the top 6 as an 18 year old.
